So what would be the point of measuring the bite. There is no way you can make a dog bite as hard as it possibly can nor is there a way to know if the dog is bitting his/her hardest or not. Those test are pointless if you ask me and like was said earlier results need to be dog to dog, not breed to breed. You hear about apbt with bone crushing bites and others than couldn't bite thru a wet paper bag, that's how much the results can vary within a breed

    my point of view

first of all i dont see why some of yall come up with flirtpole work since it has nothing to do with biting.
biting hard is not a thing you can train on BUT i think untrained jaw muscles are a great disadvantage in a show. this is something else.
now the following has nothing to do with it, but i enjoy to do some tug of war with the dogs every now and then, we use firehose for that; and what you see is that the dogs who are not used to this or the young dogs their jaw muscles will start to shake much sooner and they will let loose a few minutes after that, while the dogs who have did it before(just once a week) have no such troubles and mainly rely on their will and stamina.
so what im personally convinced about is that a dog who has totally untrained jaw muscles will gradually loose bite force. try to bite on a piece of plastic your self, matter of minutes until your jaws start to cramp.
i also agree that it would not be smart to make to much springpole exercise during a keep if you dont want to waste their energy level.
so what i would do is work on their jaws BEFORE the keep, just like i would work on their other muscles before the actual keep.
i know some prefer to give their dogs a large bone every now and then to do so

when an animal has been assessed worthy of showing. the bite it posesses would have been noted. stamina and strength is as much as you can increase in a dog. always leave enough in the tank for the show.

some dogmen keep their animals underweight.....this wil increase their toolkit as they are fed up during a keep.

ryt. ;) if ur dog has a potential it is given, the only difference is how u train them. anyway for me bite work is just an addition. when ur doing a tag of war or spring pole u'll notice that ur dogs muscle work. it only means that it adds a extra power to the dog. just don't over do it. Peace. ;)
