I've got a year old female who has shown none of the sides that have been described in this thread. Now obviously I have heard stories like this before but this girl and her litter mates are all on point. She does watch the place and is alert however I have socialized her to be people friendly and she get's along with my other dog's as well, that being said the agility and drive she has at her size could definitely make for a dangerous animal. We took her out hunting for birds with us and I was extremely happy with her drive and intelligence, again this is my experience, she is bred off of more show line animals though and that would probably explain some of this. As for corso dog's I have heard more health stories and over aggressive behaviors from those animals so I was surprised by this thread.

When you realize how small canary islands are, you can only imagine how hard its to get a good dog or preserve this breed. And now is even harder with the FCI and the "Dogo Canario" bullshit.

So i guess, the problem is about breeders,it's standard and owners, not about Presas!

I live in Fuerteventura, land of the Pastor Majorero and you'll hear lots of storys about them from the eldery. Amazing breed!

Not saying you guys in USA have subpar animals with subpar breeders. But here you see Presa's everywhere, still breed by old school people and for working purposes, its pretty common here but you dont hear about atacks or that stuff... and we have BSL as well.

  4. you know whats so messed up about that that lady getting killed by those 2 presas .. the guy they got him from was actually in prison and trained those dogs in prison.. he had a protection dog thing going.. then get this.. the lady who got killed and her husband were both respectable lawyers.. then they adopted this prisoner .. who was a grown man like 38 years old.. what the hell...

Not a ban but its requeriment to have insurance, muzzle and short leash. And inside your propierty dogs should be tied and do not run free....

I heard this kennel has good Presas. They only breed working/performance dogs and they prefer more athletic dogs. I have no experience with the breed but from what I heard about them I would buy a dog from them

  13. the part where its wrong,,,i think,,no I'm sure its the wrong part,,that part,,understand ?

As far as my experiences goes with them, the real deal has been the so called Alano, the term Perro de Presa Canario just popped up later aswell as the new term Dogo Canario.
Over here in Germany there have been some working dog enthusiasts arround Dr. Rudolf Sewerin starting out with these dogs and they wanted hard hitting alert dogs that could be used as personal protection and guard dog BUT they also wanted dogs that fit in a modern day environment by means they had to be obedient and not getting mad without a reason.
Thing is they are ranging from complete turds to hardcore protectors.
The ideal dog is somewhere in between.
What is of importance you have to socialize them properly and train them properly.
This is definately not a dog for a beginner or someone that just want´s a big fat impressive looking toy, these dogs are serious!
They are getting along perfectly with people they grew up with aswell as other lifestock in your household but they are not amazed by strangers.
Most tolerate them but 99 % of them wouldn´t be thrilled to get touched by a stranger.
So from a decent breeding programm in the hands of a decent owner they are pretty good dogs to have but god beware if there are some stupid idiots that aren´t able to take proper responsibility on dogs it could end in a disaster!

The Presa has a bad rep. just like the APBT but just like the true APBT if you own one you know most of the BS you see on tv is just that. We have a presa and she is great she gets along with the other dogs and is a great family protector. Other than APBT I will always have a presa in the family.

The old Alano is extinct, the actual one is a recreation, a boxer/amstaff mix with Dogo Argentino.. a poor recreation.

The closest you'll think to the old working Alano is the "Villano de las Encartaciones", at least as far as blood goes. A working catching dog and rural guardian.

About presas, the guardian blood behind them is coming off the Pastor Majorero. A serious guardian, here you can hear to old timers talk about stories about Majorero dogs, sometimes exagerations but funny as always hehe.

  20. ...poor man !!!
Perro de presa canario son puros guardianes and really good dog for this work. Your words are gifts for BSL....
