This topic is being disscussed on another thred thought i would start this as not to Piret that one ,even its all over the place...LOL

Any way Ive got this little 3/4 JRT 1/4 Rat Terrier .had to drop her at the vet todayfor a little patchwork. We had a little yard accident ,while I'm not proud of it it can happen:/
This little bich is stone loco and wants to kill everything w fur so the other day she desides to give my sbt Mia a go ..OOPS.. even though the out come was a break stick to retrieve her form Mia's Jaws the little shit just kept on Scratching ..LOL.. tenatious but not real smart.
Iknow this is no proof of game it was all over in a few short minuets ,but I know her and there is no doubt in my mind that she would scratch to her dying breath at any oponant reguardless of her pain or injury..that is game!

P.s. this isnt your average jack either she is @ 22lbs now after weening a litter, Lean she runs about 18.

    Bring on the beating...lol

i have saw plenty of dmall terriers loose thier life during hunting wild game..loose thier life in a situation that was unwinnable..if thats not gameness i dont know what else you would call it.

Jack Russells are not suppose to be real lean like the picture above ,,they should have a bit of gut where they can continue to work long hours if needed..I like mine with some belly on them..I have had them like the one I got now..so active its hard to keep weight on..But they should have a bit of gut ,the working ones.

Gotcha mine is built more the jack in the pic but w full prick ears she has a little gut right now but usualy pretty lean. I dont work her though she just keeps the yard free from racoons oposums rabits out o the garden and the barn free from mice. Shes killed some of them all..lol like I said kinda nuts..lol

I tell u what u give me that pretty show dog above and a workin jack russell and i will show you ,,depending on the terain and the condition id say u be lucky to get 2 hrs out of that dog..I lost a jack russell on a hunt he stayed gone 3 days and 3 nights how long do u think he would have lived without the extra weight..the reason u dont see it is because your comparing a jack rusell to a apbt of your staff whatever u own..the 2 are not the same..I have had skinny jack russells colapse at my feet and have to be carried ouit of the woods and I have owned them over 20 yrs so u can bet I know what willl stay around the longest.

Ok well I'm obviously aware of the differences between a working strain and a show dog, but surely going missing down a hole for days is a relatively rare occurrence and not something people would be preparing for in the normal course of things??? What other advantages does it have? Thanks for the reply, I'm here to learn and wouldn't claim to know the first thing about earth dogs

high energy dog= high enerygy burned,
    fat= stored energy
if a dog is very very lean its body will first burn the food in it belly. after thats gone the dog will start to run off fat. after all the fats gone witch on a small dog like that with diggin n running wont be long. then it will be EXTREMLY weak then it body will start to burn mucsle. after most mucle is gone the body will eat its own organs. as bamaman said, he been raisin them 20 yrs but common understandin of any body will tell u that. the skinny starve 1st. even if its only for one night a dog can freeze without enough fat. in order for yr body to try and warm itself its will begin a defence against cold n muscles will twitch "shivering" this makes the body burn a shitload of more calories. so while the pudgy lil jacky is shackin his ass off in the raining cold lost, the skinny one is dyin n fallin into hypathermia

  16. there isnt much full jacks used for ground work these days and if there is there isnt many about they dont take much stick and walk out easy there better for rats than bigger stuff

I disagree, full jack rusells are everywhere. Those little dogs and their kin are the definition of game.
Going underground pulling out badgers, killing foxes, getting in stupid fights with porcupines, and hunting mean little animals like mink and weasels.

Ratting is their expertise I agree, but their small size gives them some advantages when going underground compared to the larger terriers.

Jack rusells have even been used to hunt boar and peccary in some areas. Mean little bastards but witty too.

Jack Russell's are not on the level of patterdales for gameness and hardness, most will bay a fox and mix it now and again. My old patterdale used to eat foxes alive the crazy son of a bitch.

Correct but a stafford thats deadgame is just as game as any pitbull only problem is the stafford dont know its a stafford just that its willing to die trying and thats all anyone can ask regardless of how a dog is bred
