  1. hey group im new here, just relocated and got settled in my new place on 9 acres. loving the trails and etc. dogs love to run the yard, alot of open space. i love it.they love it. im happy. well i guess i got a little off topic, my main question was whats your guys nutrition and water intakes like on your different keeps. my males average about 45-52 pounds colby/redboy/carver bloodlines. just wondering what you guys water intakes are though out the keep.

I'd say keep fresh water for him at all times, just watch your dog, if it drinks excessively then maybe limit it some. But I'm of the opinion give as much as they want unless your trying to dry em out

if ya feeding a formulated diet in the way of dry/bagged... i wouldn't add anything except maybe some olive oil/flaxseed, maybe some animal fat depending whats what...and thats depending on the formular.
if ya feeding raw you should already have a good idea of what you need in there to make it right, but if you really want to make sure/like ya dogs in keep and your serious about it, get a blood count done, that'll soon tell ya whats what.if your at this stage, id say youve already got a good eye on how ya dog is look'n and what it needs.
as for water id give em as much as they want, but with hold imediately after work outs. in other words don't let them gulp copious amounts after a work out if they are that way inclined, once they settle and are all cooled down and calm again let em have it, same as feed.if your dog drink excesively you want to look at possible kidney problems......
i posted some stuff on sups here years ago, iron sup ect... you may find it with the search function, if not ill post it again

After a workout wait at least 1/2 an hour before giving water. I add a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon or lime and maybe an ice cube or two.

Also ime dogs on raw typically drink less than those on kibble.

Very true. When I switched to raw I thought something was wrong at first because they seemed to hardly drink. Turns out a raw diet contains way more water so they end up drinking less of it.

In keep, dog gets 1oz per lb of weight. So 48lb dog would get 48 ounces. You can give half after the work and half the next morning. You can give it all after the work, but the amount of water they get is the same. I don't leave fresh water down for them to drink at all times. What if they were to drink some water right before you started work? Your dog has a belly full of water and work suffers. You would have to cut the work out short, and that in turn, contributes to your dog not being in the proper shape over the long haul.

thats true, thats why you walk ya dog out(to empty out) before a "workout"

If a dog drinks a portion of water 30 minutes before work, you're not emptying the water out of the dog's stomach. You're emptying his bladder or his bowels. It's not the same thing.

2-4hrs before his workout , stop and take away his water that simple.

I know its "suppose" to be better in humans than regular water. Or so the guy at the health store says, we've had a few discussions about it. Just wondering if anyone had tried it.
