Not sure what to think of new puppy

A new pit bull puppy found it's way into my home. A freind of my mother's purchased a pit bull from Florida. She had this for all of a month a realized what she got herself into, and started trying to re home him. She called my mother since she knows she has 2 pit bulls (which I trained). My mom has no time or know how on how to raise a pup so she called me. The women said she was going on vacation, so I said I would do a trial week period to see if me and my wife and cat could add a dog to our home. Here is where I am having problems.
The dog supposedly comes from a breeder that breeds dogs for boar hunting. This little guy is barely 5 months old, and he is already showing traits I have not see in about the 4 or 5 pit puppy's I've either helped train or grew up around. He already has a pretty good grasp on fetch. He plays tug o war to no end. He never wants to give up. He constantly wants to work. I around him to a playground where he kept trying to figure out how to use every apertures and slide around. I took him to the dog park to see how socialize him. I have tried to put him on his back when he is being bad ( not sure if its roght or wrong just something ive used before), and he just tries really hard to be dominant. It takes awhile to calm down and submit. He played hard with much older dogs. It just seems like there is an overall gameness Too him
Sorry for the long story. I want to make the right decision with this puppy. Make sure he gets the right training and home. I have been reading a pit bull training book, but trying to get an idea what I am getting myself into. Also looking for any resources on how to train a dog with what seems like his level of gameness. I have access to parks and time to spend getting his energy out.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated

I can't see the papers on my phone..But I don't understand your point .Seems to me like you have a nice pup thats full of energy.Absolutely nothing wrong with this.My advice is keep him as far away from dog parks as you can .APBTs do not need socializing with other dogs ,I suggest you put some study and research time in on this breed..And for Pete sake let the dam dog be a puppy.I mean if you want to work with him as a pup go ahead.Just remember he is a puppy and he needs his time to enjoy puppy hood lol.Poor choice of words but I think you get my point.Don't expect so much he is a pup.Did your mom and dad expect a lot out of you when you were a child ?

First of all you have no idea as to what the term game means. Gameness is a quality that is defined as such "Game or Gameness is a quality of fighting dogs or working terriers that are selectively bred and conditioned from a very early age to develop traits of eagerness and perseverance despite the threat of severe injury and or death." So how do you know this pup is game then? Have you sent him to ground to bring up an angry badger? Or have you fought him in the pit to test his gameness? All you can say with any certainty at this point is that he has more energy and drive than what you are used to seeing in dogs. APBT are working dogs and he has supposedly come from someone who works his stock (boar hunting), so high energy and drive are to be expected. Do not do things like roll him on his back this will do him no good at all, APBT are supposed to be fearless and dominant with other animals but he will be receptive and respectful to you if you understand him. Do not take him to dog parks and do not try to socialize him with other dogs. IF you MUST try to socialize him with other dogs, only do so with one dog at a time and supervise all interactions, you must also familiarize yourself with a break stick and it's proper use. Do not let him off leash in a public place because of potential dog aggression and as a dog from hog hunting stock I expect he will have high prey drive. Be active with him but remember he is only a pup and his body is developing and growing so nothing too strenuous. Get a spring pole and a flirt pole for him for him to play with and burn off some energy, but again don't let him play too long because he is young and these dogs have a potential to overwork themselves. Maybe consider a chain spot for when you need to safely contain him. I think you mean well and wan't to do what's right for the dog, so I hope you keep him and if you do you will have a lot of fun with him I'm sure.

Why is an an absolute must to keep him away from all dog park? I have done research about the breed. I have read plenty of books, and online websites. I have also been a member on this site for years. I am far from an expert, but I am not a noob when it comes to the breed. They have been in my life for quite some time. Just never been around a puppy quite like him.

Thank you very much for your response. You are right. I used the wrong choice of words. What I should have said is he has a lot of drive, and is very tenacious. I am curious. There is no way you see a dog like him being ok at a dog park? I know it only takes once for something bad to happen. I have already purchased a break stick for when I walk him in high traffic dog areas. Just in case something does happen. Also if rolling him on his back is not an option. Any other methods I can use to correct his behavior? Like when he is bitting on everything in site. Especially slippers and pillows. I try to give him a bone or other opton but he always goes back to the original thing.

Yeah that's what I was told. His dad weighed about 90pds.

If the pup is to much for you now then find a suitable home for him. The pup you have is bred of off working line of Hog Dogs. Find a hogger and give them pup, if he has high drive now how do you think it's gonna be at 2years old, this is not a insult but you are not ready for a working dog, save the I had Pits before routine and take my advice you and the pup will be better off Bulldogs are not for everyone. ..been around pits along time you say,,yet you never came across a pup like this.??..that say's a-lot ---...i have a young male who is,, now, working out when to try it on with me,he play bites at the moment but i let him know, not too..i know it's comeing when i am going to show him who's in charge...i do catch him giveing me the look when walking..so the sooner he try's the better,(we can sort it out once)so we can then carry on and he knows who is in charge,ya should only have to do it once and he won't forget...if ya think ya can't do it give him to somebody that can handle him,,or swap for an easy going dog...????(ps:a-lot of dog breeds will try it on when young)........your pup is just a pup with a-lot of energy...you give him a good slaping that he won't do it again..some-times this has to be done for some, not all..because if he turn's into an adult that is afraid of no-one...ya have trouble.....

I have a 9 week old pup just put him on a leash. He follows and is attentive off leash but got distracted and stubborn today. So I pushed his but down nicely made him sit he kept trying to get out of the leash. So I pulled him close an stepped on the leash so he could only sit. When we got in he was a Lil passed it seems I had to clean his area so I tied his leash to the door. He became upset and just wiggled out of it.Ran over to me and I found a squeak toy and lead him to his crate. Is this OK on my part or not.I don't hit my puppy don't want to but am I on the right road?

He is not to much. I actually like having athletic dog with drive. I run and go hiking so it's perfect. I'm already looking into a spring pole and harness for pulling. See what he likes. Just took me for a shock. I guess most other bulldogs I've been around were either very calm, or breed from staffie lines. Which would make sense based on temperament and size.
I've been using the shaping method with some success. Now when I say no he pays attention because he knows the consequence. He sometimes goes back to it, but he is getting better.

I'm just going to burn his energy out as much as I can
Give him as many constructive activities as possible. He is a sweet loving dog when he isn't hyper focused on something.

For the record one issue with dog parks is no matter how well ur dog is trained the same can't be said for all the others. Also just because someone takes a dog to a park doesn't mean they ain't sick.

I run hog dogs. My catch dogs get along pretty good with my bay dogs. At the same time strange dogs are hit and miss.

It's a good lookin lil pup best I can tell and has the right drive for a good CD. Most hog hunters breed for no HA as lil as possible DA and enough prey drive to tackle a train. They also look for a good solid bite with minimal regrip. So if it gets hold u gonna need that stick. Good luck with the pup.

...well big city..if he is starting...to do what he should, ya make sure ya keep up the pressure..so when he do's become of age,ya will have the control.....if anybody feels a dog is getting to much to control for them to handle, do the right thing and give it to some-one that can handle em,,no matter the breed...y/n...?????

Yea I have started to socialize him with a few friends that have dogs on a one on one basis. I also know that my friends dogs are not sick and have all there shots.

Its funny you said something about the regrip. Ive noticed that once he bites onto a rope we play with he simply does not let go. He holds without trying to get a better bite. Also when I take im to the park he with see something and just fixate on it. Whether it be a bug or squirrel, or even some piece of plastic. He just goes after it.

I agree with you. I'm trying to figure out the best way to train him, and make him a good pup
