I too have heard of some pretty messed up stuff, happening during the wash...

I think an ACE has to prove it's gameness, but a FREAK wouldn't...imho

It got to the point where we washed our own under the supervision of the second or handler, they could direct the wash and smell and taste the dog, but no hands on! That had to be in the contract or no deal! Just heard of one to many GOOD dogs go'n south, for no apparent reason!

Out of curiosity, How can the taster cheat? Since he can only touch your dog with his tongue.

Like my new internet mentor said,,, I dont want to get into a three page thread on cheating,,, but make sure the taster has nothing foriegn in thier mouth...
To steer away from this subject,,, another good tip my buddy used to live by is drying thier dog very throughly so your dog dont aspirate on the moisture,,, be weary of saying leave them wet it will help them stay cool... you can accidently cheat yourself if you dont know better...

I'd prefer if you answered the question Elias. No one should be able to spit owt down a dogs throats or blow owt down their ears as they should be covered. And any rub applied the taster would have in his mouth and it's their dog that'll be affected not mine.

well i don't even own a dog, but my idea of an ace would be an animal that knew how to win. no need to win by a mile, just win. but i am a noob so don't mind me lol.

The ACE will win by a mile. Lots of dogs are game enough and hang around long enough to win. Lots of curs are rough enough or conditioned well enough to win. So "just win" leaves a lot of gray area. ACE basically leaves no doubt.

I see a difference in freak and ace also. A freak could just bite himself to a win. The incredibly talented athlete can set a pace the other can't match and win. Both could end up being curs, just nothing kept them long enough for it to show.

I'm not exactly anti-Grunt but he has been referred to as an ACE, a freak, a game dog but mostly overly exaggerated. He had so much mouth in his first the other guy basically said if I had five more minutes he would have quit but I did not have enough dog today to go five more minutes. Second guy said the same. (3-5 were make believe, so that is another topic). Grunt was a freak.

Charlie broke out on top and never looked back. He changed styles, he had smooth transitions between offense and defense all the while laying some pretty good wood. He had every answer. Slick as glass and laying pipe. He was an ACE.

DTA's Early 66 could absolutely breathe underwater. He never had a heart rate, it was like his heart never sped up with the rest of his body. He could just go flat out for what seemed like days. His keeps were brutally intense trying to get him hot or get him to breathe. Just did not happen. He won 2 and set a pace the other two could not keep up with, he was relentless between the eyes but as cotton mouth as they come. The pace was unreal. He didn't have enough mouth to win but he did. Since most dogs succumb to fatigue we simply never knew. His athleticism and pace his whatever negatives were lying underneath.

Simply there is no cookie cutting in these dogs.

Man that said it all!!! "There is no cookie cutter that would fit an ACE" Personally I like one I can make lots of side bets on! One that you know unless cut to pieces, and cant stand, will win and look bad do'n it! I want people laying ME odds and plenty of side action! Had a fella tell us that dogs just about an ace! I said man dont say that, you start say'n that and sure enough he'll run into one better next time! LOL Kinda like vexing A dog before they retire! LOL I also heard it was BAD LUCK to be supersticious!!

    Fictitiously speaking..

Ch Pistol was a great straight ahead bulldog. Very well rounded, not outstanding in any one thing, but extremely good in every area. Everything you'd want in a bulldog, and his owners were first class and good friends of mine. His brother Pilot was also a first class dog who died way too soon after swallowing a rope toy they got into his chain spot.

That said, IMO, he wasnt an "ace" in my definition of the word. Ive been fortunate enough to see many, MANY great dogs over the years... and I can count the number of true "ace" dogs i've seen on one hand. So maybe my definition is a bit more stingy than most.
