I have a 5 week old male pup, when and what can I do to condition him. I think we are going to do some weight pulling with him when he is old enought.

what can I do other the proper diet as a puppy and young dog to ready him and build muscle. He will be my first real pull dog and I want to start him off in all the right ways, so we dont over or under do it ;)
Thanks for any help you can give,
    Heather

Let the dog be a puppy dont work it or nothing except for walks and stuff. When i get pups i let them eat freely and start doing long walks at 6 months and increase it every month.

i would work on "come" and basic obidience skills. dont start working the dog til 11 mo. you have a long wait ahead of you.

I wouldn't even think of conditioning him AT ALL just yet. He's still a baby. Think about it. Thats like a human saying "I wonder when I can start working this lil baby out so he he/she can compete in sports." Sounds crazy, BUT thats what a lot of people sound like when they FIRST get a 5 or 6 week old pup. First thing that pops in their mind is conditioning. You have to bond with the lil guy first. Make sure he/she is obediant and has proper training. Make sure he/she trusts you and then go from there. As your pup ages and starts to come into his own then you can start to see what different aproaches you need to take to properly train them to do what you want them to do.

    Good luck!!

Nothing yet, let them be a pup and have plenty of playtime...you'll be suprised, a pup will wear you out if anything...lol...a pup that young is going to sleep a LOT too, so if you do walk him/her, keep it short and to the point, mostly just for bonding time..

Let the pup be a pup,
socialise him/her use a come command & praise (always use the same word for coming will help in the future)
    good Luck

Still too young, the pup might get parvo or other virus.

Just relax and enjoy your little babydog. You can't condition a baby.

Wait 11 months & THEN think about it. To get a 5 week old pup (which is way to young to leave it's litter anyway, but that's people nowadays--gotta get the money sooner) & trying to rush training (at that age the idea is just absurd) & weight gain is 100% absolutely the WRONG reason to get a dog! Let the puppy be a puppy for goodness sakes. In 10-11 mo., then you can start with some light training. Until then, buy some good, reputable books, read them, contact some clubs that do weightpull, speak to other reputable people that train their dogs the right way, & LEARN. To do anything else is a letdown to your dog.
