What's your dog's job?

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by BlazesPapa, Jan 21, 2006.

  1. Newbie here (yeah!). Just wondering what y'all use your dogs for. I'd like to get Blaze into pulling, I think he'd enjoy it. Just waiting on the money for the proper checkups and equipment. I also think he'd enjoy agility, but he's a bit of a whacko and gets all goofy when he's excited :D

    So. . .what's your dog's thing?

My Greyhound prefers sleeping. Yeah, yeah sleeping works best for him. He takes his retirement VERY seriously.

I look forward to getting a therapy dog and/or agility dog in the near future.

My girl Candi is training for weight pull and Raven is a wacky little love bug who isn't quite old enough to start her weight pull training (she will be 1yr on the 24th).

Both my girls will weight pullers.

BTW- Welcome to the forum! :)

I have never seen weight pulling in person, but apparently they have a huge competition once a year at the fair grounds which are down the street from my house. I'll have to check it out this year. Not exactly sure when it is, but I'll see if they have a website.

I mean what's more fabulous than watching a dog use it's strength and breeding to have fun!! It makes you proud (says the owner of a retired racer with a FANTASTIC record on the track).

I have two little game dogs coming up and once they're of aga I plan to weight pull and possible conformation events as well.

    Job: family companion

duties: acting tough when shady types walk past the house, playing with the kids, going on long walks, laying at my feet, and generally putting a smile on my face at any given moment.

Now they have hobbies: weight pull, OB, and various excersing activities (spring pole, jogging, etc.)

    rocksteady I'll drink to that..

My dog's jobs are simply to be the best APBTs they can possibly be..
Its long hours and not always fun but if they succeed, the rewards are endless in food, treats, affection and health care .. heck, maybe even a 401K if they are lucky... and for vacation they get to go to a few dog shows and show off....

I'm not sure if that's a good "duty" or not. Why would you want your dogs to "act tough" around "shady" people? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Most of the "shady people," that I've seen anyway, seem to brag about the "tough acting" dogs that they see while they are "passing by houses" to their friends, which in turn travel the same path. That not only adds to the negative perspective of the "pit bull" but also puts your dog's in harms way by forcing others to notice your "tough acting" dog and encouraging the perception of it being their own "tough acting dog."

My fattie's job is simple- keeping the covers warm at night ;) And keeping those darn bible-thumbers outta my yard!

Wally's got the sheet warming thing down, but he really needs to work on the bible-thumpers. :D

Loki's main job is to make sure that darn couch doesn't get all rowdy and out of control by applying her body weight to it. And to give the cats a run around the house when she thinks they're getting too fat. Other than that, we do weight pulling when we can, and are still working on that obedience thing. Agility later; should be fun.
