some homeowner insurance companys will ask, mine did and I just said she was a pup and started talking about her and they nver asked again but I had people tell me that they raised the price for haveing a ABPT. So I guess they can do as they please it just all depends on the company. If someone already wrote something like this sorry to say it again. I didn't read all the post

Of course it's a scam but since insurance is a business they are free to charge what ever the market will bear. I don't like it, but it's legal. rathrer than a whiny petition that goes no where there should be an effort underway to get every home owner who wants insurance regardless of breed to get thier dog to pass a canine good citizen test. For petbulls this should not be to much of problem do it when thier are young and before they "turn on" For proffesionally bred game dogsor proffesional breeders indivual kennels/runs combined with perimieter fencing etc plus warning sings and keeping the dogs on an isolated part of the property should serve as adeqaute protection.

Also in Augusta, Ga. we own a carlot and had two Akitas that lived there when we did. The female got out one day and the male went chaseing after her and one of the employee's grabed her and the male jumped on the guy ripped open his chest and almost all of his mucles off his arm.
We lost a 100,000.00 law suit but the insurance didn't cancle us, just made it high as hell.
But we got the male dog back by pull with a judge and he lived the next 8 years in the back of the porperty and died last march had him for 13 years. Now certain people want to make quick bucks by fighting, breeding dogs for street fighters are any fighters to buy and they are just destorying the working dog name

    I think it's a load of B.S.

I just checked with my insurance company again and they said they don't have anything like this. I'm glad. Said if the dog had a history of biting I would just be required to take out an additonal rider.

i voted no on the pole of course everyone did....BUT i beleive they shouldn't raise rates cause of a BREED...other dogs ARE more likely to attack GERMAN SHEPARDS....ROTTIES....beleive it or not BIRD DOGS....i think the insurance companies need to rewrite their position on this DANGEROUS DOGS deal rates should ONLY increae if their dog is PEOPLE aggresive by vet check or what not before they impliment any kind of rate change.....but you have to give the insurance companys the benefit of the doubt...i think they should just rewrite their position on such things

    Thanks

In flordia the law requires a 150,000.00 insurances on pitbull breeders

  9. Re: Insurance Companies & the Dangerous Dog Hit List

It's a bunch of BS, people are so ignorant when it comes to animals. The breed has nothing to do with how dangerous they are, yes pits can be dangerous but so can a little maltese. I had a maltese and she would bite you before my pit would. They just think because they look tough that they are a threat, not right at all. People have come to hate pits, dobbies, rots and chows because of all the bs stories out there. I'm sure if they took a poll on chihuahuas, maltese, boston terriers, etc all the small dogs, they would come up with high numbers too, only difference is they're small and cute.

What about people who have bad kids? are they gonna raise insurance then too?? what the hell...there's lots of things that can be used to raise insurance prices but they chose dogs because they can't defend themselves. I have a goal after my business starts doing well to own apartment complexes where nothing but the BAD DOGS will be accepted. They're family just as much as cats and poodles are, they just defend their owners a little better ; )

I know when we rented our house from a major reality company they asked if we had any "pit bulls" of "staffs" If I would have told the truth I would have been denied as a resident because of there insurance company and its policy's. Needless to say I "forgot" to tell them I not only had 1 but 2 APBT's and we never had a single problem. When we moved I happend to mention to the landloard that we had lived in our house for 4 years and never had a single complaint or incident. I heard later that she amended her policy or changed it for the renters after us who were APBT owners as well.

why would there be one in the first place home insurance is there to protect you from theft, fire, water, and some natural disasters...any dog could help anyone of these..especially like theft a dog could prvent a brake in, or alert a owner of fire and etc...you would think insurance companies would look good tords it...heck it could save them some money... a dog in my book sound more like a good thing instead of a bad thing!!! thats just my oppion

  14. Re: Insurance Companies & the Dangerous Dog Hit List

If they do anything, why not wait and see if the dog bites (and what were the conditions/situation)? My dogs are harmless, but if someone breaks in my house and they should bite the person, should that person get to file an insurance claim? I think not. And who should decide what a dangerous dog is? Why pick on certain breeds when poodles and cocker spaniels can be mean little mfs?

any dogs can be dangerous, its up to the owner that makes a dog dangerous not the dog it self... police/cops are dangerous, take them out...

  16. Re: Insurance Companies & the Dangerous Dog Hit List

LOL! Yeah, cops are dangerous. They'll lie, too. Dogs don't lie.

Personally I can't see what the dog has to do with the policy in the first place. I mean it's not like it's a chain smoking drunk that might fall asleep with a lit cigarette and burn the house down.

Re: Insurance Companies & the Dangerous Dog Hit List

Despite the fact that insurance companies shouldn't be legally allowed to discriminate against owners of certain dogs, the fact is is that they are & they do. Upon buying our house last June ('04), I was forced to lie by omission about our dogs since I was turned down & even hung up on many, many times when I tried to be honest. We ended up losing our homeowner's insurance 3 separate times (from 3 diff companies) when somehow they found out about our dogs. One time, a neighbor ratted us out when 1 agent sent someone out to thake the necessary pics so of course we were dropped. That was with Liberty Mutual. The second time, I was home & so 5 dogs were tied out in the back, & without a phone call (24 hr notice IS the law) or even a knock on my door, the asshole trespassed into my backyard (my husband forgot to lock the gate back after mowing the grass) & was met w/a not so warm welcome by my dogs. The kicker is that he was eaily w/in reach of Mia, yet she did nothing but chase him back out of the gate (mind you no attacking took place luckily for him). We were notified of a cancellation but not given a reason until 2 months later when I confronted the guy, but he never said why we were being dropped since he knew that what he did was trespassing & against the law (I'm still working on that case w/a lawyer). That was Farm Bureau. The 3rd time we were dropped was when this asshole contacted our new company & told them that we owned "vicious attack pit bulls that were a big liability". That was with All-State. So finally, State Farm was again able to write new policies (they had not been able to for over 2 yrs due to hurricanes & such) & they came to our rescue. Our agent even owns a nice looking OFRN APBT w/pics & the ped on his office wall. Gotta love that. They have been great.
