at what age is it ok to start feeding a dog meat? Roxy will be 3 months on the 24th of this month...

I would think you could start feeding meat at any time. Just use caution if you're planning on feeding anything with bone. Personally, I would wait until she's a bit older for that. (For the record, I love feeding things like raw meaty bones and turkey necks. But I didn't start feeding them until my girl was over a year.)

Just take away the bones. Eggs are good also.

You can feed them meat whenever you want. Use chicken or beef parts. ALL parts including, liver, hearts, stomach, kidneys

make sure you feed it with the kibble. If you start this will help with the digestive process. I personally only feed Chicken. Its got everything you need. Eggs are also a great source of protein.

I have to respectfully disagree with this. Kibble and raw meats digest at different rates. From what I've heard, meat digests in about 4 hours, kibble in about 8. I never feed the two together, and its generally been expressed among raw feeders that you shouldn't.

thanks guys, but what about the meat dog food in the can... is it worth it or is better just to feed the left over chicken parts?

I wouldn't waste my time with canned food unless it was made by a really good company. I have mixed in a bit of Solid Gold's canned stuff from time to time, more to give my dogs a treat than for any nutritional benefit. IMO, feeding the actual meat is the best thing.

Thanks for that tidbit Bahamutt: about the meat and kibble digesting at different rates. Very interesting and it makes sense...

Does it apply if everything is ground/blended up together (kibble and meat and veggies)???? I usually blend it all up.

Also, my girls love some scrambled eggs mixed in their kibble, they go nuts!!!!

Nutro has a decent canned food, and yes it's like a treat to my gals too.

Canned food is just that, canned food. It's generally a wet version of kibble (There's also wet "add ins" to go with dry kibble, but that's a different story). Adding wet to the dry is like doubling up on kibble. Canned food is usually of poor quality & adds nothing nuntrion-wise.

Unless your dog needs the extra protein, one could go without added meat all together. However, one can start feeding it at anytime.

My Pit Bull never seen kibble and she was only 5 weeks when I got her,( the mother had complications) and my mutt had puppies 3 month ago and I started them with ground beef.If you are going to feed your pup raw food, start slowly and introduce the bones gradualy.
