Pistols? Two and a half words: Browning Hi Power.

It's the best off both worlds; single action only, so you can carry cocked and locked, and holds 14 rounds. I just can't do the plastic pistol thing. I tried and failed.

I've been hearing that #1 shot is the best for your shotty. More pellets, and they're still have enough to get good penetration. I can't find any, though, and I'm too lazy for mail order. Double ought will have to do for now....

IMO, you can not beat a good 12 ga for home protection. There are way more lethal rounds available for them than your typical hunting loads. G2Research will be producing the most vicious round I have ever seen for the 12 ga later this year I believe. Currently, it's only made for 9mm but when it comes out for the 12ga. It will be your end all round....

"Heavy enough". Still heavy enough for good penetration. lol

Those RIP 9mm's aren't all they're cracked up to be. The little break off pieces only penetrate 2-3 inches. That's what I'm hearing, at least. They look nasty, though, for sure....

They only need to penetrate 2-3 inches do cause massive damage. The center ball does the punching through.. IMO Shrapnel pieces do more damage staying in then exiting, both in short term and long term damage should the person survive one... Also, currently they are only made for 9mm which most know, lacks the knock down power that the .40 or .45 cal has. In that video they show the round going through a board and still penetrating the gel form pretty deep and effectively. The massive shock wave it creates will case the kind of trauma a hydro-shok round creates on top of mass tissue damage from the trocars. You get hit anywhere with a round like that and your fucked....

if someone comes into my home and I need to use a gun, i'm killing them. period! Would i be better off with a shotgun ? I have no problem going to the range often and practicing, aim wouldn't really be of much concern.

Shotguns are a way better choice to me for a home protection gun simply because of the fact that more than likely, an intruder is coming in at night and will wake you. Therefore you will be disorientated as to what is happening at first. A pistol, you will have to aim, not so easy to be accurate when your confused and your adrenaline it thru the roof and it's dark but with a shotgun none of that other stuff matters. Point and shoot a shotgun with the right choke in it down a hallway and everything is getting hit, no aim needed. The down side is the size of a shotgun when going around corners but in reality, if that situation ever arouse here, I'm not coming looking for you I would wait in my doorway with the gun pointed down the hallway and as soon as I heard foot steps it's pull the trigger time...

I watched a video on youtube where they were liquefying watermellons with the Hornady CD rounds. Was a good video.

The reality is a regular old round will get the job done, some just are better suited for creating the most damage possible in the process. I tend to believe that 9 out of 10 times, if you fire a gun when someone is intruding into your house they will be gone and more than likely never come back...

A shotgun would be the easiest to hit a target, no question asked. I'm not only wanting to hit a target though, I'm also going to prove a point. I want it well known throughout the criminal community that if you try going in treez's house, that mf will unload his whole 100 round drum and in the same movement reach for his 48 rounders. So, not only will you hit and kill your intruder but the 9 o clock news will get out the message that this is the wrong house to go up in. If you catch me in the car, the glock 26 with the 33 round mag is going to send you to meet your maker, or the backup XD 40 I have on me.

You have to watch that though, while I feel the same way, if someone comes in here uninvited I'm empting the gun. However, it's going to be a lot harder to explain a corpse with 100 rounds in it lol. A judge could see that as excessive and possibly charge you for simply protecting what's yours. Some states would send you to jail for an act like that. lol guess it depends on the state itself though. Pa is very pro gun but if you shot an intruder while they are trying to leave or there is malice involved your going to jail. lol

Good thing I'm in TX huh lol. I don't plan on any of them going in through the back of them, I don't anticipate them getting a chance to turn around. Even if so. it's TX lol.

My only fear would be (in my current neighborhood) a judge seeing my actions as "dangerous" to others, being I have houses close by that my 7.62 rounds could end up hitting. But that would be my only concern is if bullets went through my house and into another house.

When I was a kid in PA there was a story on the news about a guy that shot and killed his mother-in-law in his garage. He claimed he thought she was a raccoon. No charges were filed....

    Gotta love mountain towns. lol
