they are a problem around here...i personally have lost hound pups to them, and locals always keep tabs on newborn calves. we try every winter to take as many as we can, but its a war you wont win

Dry Creek, those are some fine lookin dogs you got. I especially like that bitch bred down from Sundance. I'd love to see the pups if you have success with the breeding.

  6. that's a bad ass dog you have

  7. Yup, where I grew up they are like vermin they are so common. They are known to eat small dogs and cats and to mess up larger dogs. When I was a teen a group of friends and I would go out into the woods where we had a made a makeshift fire pit and do normal things misbehaving teens do while staying out there overnight. Long story short, we always had to carry sticks and bats because the coyotes were pretty damn ballsy and would try to come up to the fire. (The woods were behind a friends house and not an area that laws would permit shooting guns.... too close to the houses on the edge of the woods)

Thank you baypitmaster, I think so too. :D

popper- and those two never will again LOL. Shogun isn't that small. He's 54 conditioned, over 60 CW. My biggest concern was his age (8 years). He's a senior for fk's sakes, he's supposed to be chillin and drillin, not battling. :)

like i said, i bet there was more than 2, those were just the unlucky f*ckers who found out how well a bulldog closes their mouth. :D...there aint a yote out there that stands a chance with their nippy biting style, it wont win a fight, just cause alot of infection if not kept clean. get one of your younger males, find a nice place away from your home to settle down and call em. good entertainment, just take a rifle in case they wont get close enough to let a dog on em.

  14. I got my bets on the fact that much more than 2 of those yotes jumped Shogun. They are little weasels and tend to only attack if they can gang up on something. Shogun probably had a big pack of them on him and as soon as he killed two the others realized it was time to run like curs.

I've never seen a coyote attack but I've heard that they like to taunt the dog from the front while the others sneak up behind. Considering the wounds on Shogun's backside I'd say that is the only reason he got damaged as much as he did. If they'd all come in from the front I doubt he would have been hurt even half as bad. I'd really like to know what he contended with that night. He was pretty darn tired for a few days afterwards.

The only dog he will tolerate is a female in heat. He can be an absolute Casanova then. Unless she gives him to hard of a time. He becomes a tad intolerant and wants to teach her manners. He has a pretty strong bite and doesn't like letting go. It requires a great deal of struggle and a break stick to get him off the hide. I don't even attempt it, that's for the hubby to deal with LOL.

He still has some swelling and is being careful with that right forelimb but other than that he is back to normal. Sugar is on her 11th day and I'm hoping the injury doesn't affect his breeding abilities. This is a breeding of the best to the best of our yard and I'm excited and hopeful. It's been 5 years since our last litter and I'm due for some puppy lovin. :D

  16. I'm sure he will do well, I would just give him some extra rest and food after the breeding. He already is going to be weary and sore from the coyotes, and breeding is more excited high energy activity while he is still healing up from his coyote adventure. I bet he will do great though, good luck with the breeding. Don't let that bitch give him any lip hah hah! ;)

PS. If the breeding takes we better get puppy pictures....I've got a serious case of the fever!

How could I not post pics LOL.

I'm hoping this girl will let me be there during the birthing process. I had one years ago that would try to sit in my lap between pups. :D

But I've also seen where a gyp will possibly hurt her pups if your even watching....you leave them alone and try to keep a distant eye on whats going on.

I'll let you all know if we get a tie...

Damn, your "house dog" has a great looking pedigree and I'm sure she'd do all of the dogs in their proud. As for Shogun, pedigree or not, this dog certainly proved himself. Screw the 2xw otc, he took on at least 2 yotes at once and won, probably took on a lot more but he curred them all out. What more can you want from an 8 year old veteran? Post them pics up once the pups are born.
