  3. I have heard that it u go past this point that the dogs loose when inbred to the dam. Meaning if u take one of these sons back to the mom again... but I think that ppl just aint as interested in the bitches. After read'n them links it seems it should be the thing to do being that the female may contribute more to the pups then the male.

    It definitely could be done.

My question is which son back to the mom? What if there is more than one champion?

That's why it comes down to the stud most of the time. I don't know about the females and their drive being less than males: I do know that it's harder to keep the genetic percentages by using just the mom. Alot goes wrong with litters before 8 weeks

You line breed (brood) the female offspring and get basically the same genetic percentages and see all you would ever want to see all the good and the bad off the females genetics in less years with more numbers.

Expediency... That's why it is plainly best to best: and if it's for paper line preservation then it only makes sense to use the studs more often in the combination

    IMHO

PS Another thing I was taught as a child is females put through rigorous sporting activities are more likely to eat or sit on their young: Gotta watch them closer

Race horse breeders are big into linebreeding to producing females,i think they call it a rasmussen cross.genes influencing Heart size are carried on the x chromosome, bitch/mare has 2,male has 1 that he definitely inherited from his dam and definitely will pass on to his daughters. The reason that all secretariats sons were vastly inferior to him.

  7. A. Dog Man.. i think that goes along with what my ppl was talk'n bout that breeding this way takes away from the dogs. but could it be that the female was just passing on the defects that were invisible to the eye until they started pure'n her up? i was just lookin at a ped from a friend that was goin in the direction im inquire'n about. they said she produced well and if they still had her tht was what their plans may have been.

on ur question of which son to use if there should be more then one ch son.. i would imagine that is up to the breeder to decide. maybe one shows out just like the dam.. maybe the other's style is complimentary to his dam.. if she throwin it like that i dont think u could go wrong either way. but thats JMO.

even if they are not in the same family of dogs? or the outcome would be the so called "Scatter Bred dog"? pls. don't get me wrong... i'm here to learn. just asking... thanks

  9. the sons were inferior but what about the daughters? if they were improve'n then there could be loigic in building better females to be bred into the lines of males already established, huh..?

Building a line off of a brood is part of the strategy, not the whole it always comes down to the studs.

The point of inbreeding and then outcrossing is to get all the defects before mixing the pot. IMO You need best to best and the numbers to match. You simply cant get that working off of one Bitch. You'll never be certain you got the best male to female combo and you'll stress you wasted a cycle or two.

Breed the best and cull the rest... no matter the combo. Get a chart and draw it

Honeybunch son's got their own lines

As far as destroying the breed... You only do that by not breeding the best stock (stud or bitch) as often as possible. There will always be peddlers. If you care about the breed you give peddlers something to peddle... Something that will spread and preserve the breed.

That is; once your done with it.

Takeing a good talented honest dog to a good talented honest bitch is first and formost imo. That is the most importan factor. However a smart breeder will take into account manny other things includeing familys of the dogs being bred. There is alot to breeding thats why it should be left to professionals.

I first started with game fowl,an the old men that I obtained them from told me allways start with a trio.A cock and two hens the cock must be inbred but not related to the hens, the hens a mother and dauther if you can if not two sisters. You breed the cock to the hens the 1st year the 2nd year after they have proven themselves you take the produce and breed them back to their sire an dams. The next year you do the same with the get of that year, then you make your out,but you don't go and find one that is unrelated, you use the fowl of the first mating as your out,so infact this mating will be linebred. Now the linebred ones you can start inbreeding them the same way. This way all your fowl/dogs have the same genenetic make up some are tight some not.If you don't keep all the offspring this plan will not work for you as you may have sold or gave away the BEST ONE.JMO

I was taught to breed like Garth and some of the others have talked about. I started my yard with this a female. I bred her to a good producing male and kept a male back off that. I bought a sister to the original female and I bought a cousin to the female directly off the female's sire brother. So when I started breeding my females to any studs I always would have a line breeding when I decided to cross their offspring. I have bought some other animals outside of this core but I keep my core tight and right. I can go uncle to niece or aunt to nephew easy. Or first gen cousin to cousin while keeping the good stuff at the top. The oldman that taught me told me the females are the key to your yard and I found out what he is talking about.
