So 20- 30#'s is okay to call catchweight... not in my book
A person has to be a fool to do something like that, with to conditioned dogs...

Yeah but if you agree to one catchweight and somebody brings a 30 pounder are you going to pay forfeit and go home. If you agree to catchweight truth is you won't know the weight of opponent until wash time. You may bring one in at 57 and the other guy 77. But you could bring one at 57 and he bring one at 52.

And a catchweight match just means no set weight. It's just usually done at 55+ because it's harder to get a set weight that high but, I've seen dogs go at over 55 on a set weight and I've seen them come in under 55 when there is no set weight.

Why would I pay the forfeit, cause said person is a dumbass... lol ima take the easy win... I agree with the rest of your post...
That's why catchweight is usually 50-55+

That's part of the game... but remember it is a game, and all games have rules... most don't know them or just don't have respect for them

From my understanding though, catchweight means there are no rules to weight. What would you do if you had a 57 pound dog looking across at a 77 pound one.... nothing of you agreed to catchweight. Like I.said everyone has a certain range in mind but catchweight means that the weight that reads on.scale doesn't matter

    That's a catchweight show...simple

Victor explained it pretty goog when he went into cody... I BELIEVE, md was under 65 and cody was over 75... anyway that's catchweight in a nutshell...

Btw the forfeit would be just incase one side backed out (for whatever reason), and nothing to do with the weight... from what I have read lol

Lol think Cody was 72, but they were contracted at 65 to begin with. Somebody thought those extra pounds would help even out the odds lol

I believe the best big dog was Colby's Pincher.

This dog stopped 24 most of them RIP in 40 minuets or less.

Catch weight = run whatcha brung. There is no weight limit to catch weight. It's the best weight you can come at. Like the old UFC.

LOL No one alive today ever looked at Pincher except for in pictures , I also never seen GrCh Dendy. What I know of both dogs are what was reported or written to have taken place. I've never read that Pincher was matched against small dogs so I don't know what makes you so "sure" about his opponents size. LOL This Catchweight post asked what CW dog "might" be able to stop GrCh Dendy in both their primes, and because they were never matched NO ONE really knows. Pincher was a "catchweight" dog of 56 lbs conditioned. He was also a very well known dog in his time and now, which makes it hard for me to to believe anyone would match their dog against him if wasn't catchweight of 52 Lbs. or bigger, unless they wanted to lose.

Don't know anything about catchweight in dogs but in MMA it can mean anything usually a fight in between two fighters normal weight classes or open weight with no weight limit. Typical fights would be a 185lb middle weight fighter fighting at a catch weight of 195lbs with the light heavy weight fighter 205lbs coming down to meet 195lbs.

Difference is MMA fighters lose a ton of weight and weigh in the day before then put the weight back on. Tito used to walk around at 230 and compete at 205.

That's why Fedor was so great a 5'10/5'11 guy weighing 230lbs fighting open weight heavyweights when he could have made 185lbs and been small compared to 6'3 solid guys like Rockhold.

Dendy was contracted at weight. He also has FOOTAGE of him in action. Not dogman bedtime stories. Show me ANYTHING that says Pincher was contracted, at all... Says he stopped 20+ dogs in rolls, not matches. Nobody EVER said anything about the other dogs he beat, wonder why?? How many APBT, his size, do you think were around in 1896??? Ever seen any old, same era, pics of dogs his size? How many??? What was the dogs name and weight JP Colby said was the only dog to hang with Pincher???? He was half Pincher's size! I'll find it again! That's how I'm sure! They didn't care too much about weight from what I've gathered. I did my homework long ago and put together, from my experience, the true Pincher story. Again, IMO, he was the BIGGEST, baddest dog at the time because he was one of the BIGGEST APBT of the time! Guys back then were fightin anything! It says he stopped DOGS, never what breed, just that glory number. I also don't see how he was cuttin 19# either. Maybe once or twice. That's HARD on the body! He has a place in history, for me, of being one of the first bigguns. Not the best because he didn't best the best, IMO. I know you'll say, "but you weren't there!" Neither were you, or any of us, BUT!! Use common sense and logic. A good big dog will 8/10 beat a good small dog. To that last statement... It happens ALL THE TIME!!! Dogs push weight everyday OTC. Which is what I feel Pincher's "wins" were, OTC

Mornin' c note, Excellent post with some great thoughts and info You may very well be right. My only thought is who and why would people match or roll their dogs with him. There certainly isn't a lot of info on Pincher matches. But he was so famous people were killin' each other to get a pup sired by him. I don't know. What I do know is Dendy was one Baaad MOFO. As to who stops who, I wish we could both watch that match.

I don't understand this catchweight business, we all know how giving up weight has a massive affect on a match so why should it be any different with the bigger dogs? They should still be matched at the same weight imo.
