i know many folks that preffer to have pure bred stock and no crossed(redboy, ect) but why have a pure dog if it needs crossed.
Over the generation dogs have been crossed simply because one dog was lacking something of ablility which is why they crossed it to get the ablility that wasnt there. But why have pure bred stock.

Dont get me wrong, i own some pure bred stock and will be crossing it soon but look (it it works for some people ehy fix it if it isnt broke)

just curious, i wanna here some responses

From what i get out of your post you want to know why have a pure line bred dog that is lacking something or another rather than crossing it out to get what it is lacking well my answer to that is the people who do this sort of thing are breeding for papers only not for working dogs that can be the only reason

Who says you have to go outside of a family of dogs to find what your animals are lacking? And what is pure... cuz there are some big families out there... pure eli? I'm sure its enough eli dogs out there to find what you need lol. even if you narrowed it down to bullyson, midnight cowboy, etc.

because of percentages, different beliefs/theories in regards to breeding and traits, and because different type of dogmen have varied preferences. Some aim for ace some happy with game test for breeding while others breed for the match dog. Me personally I want dogs with above average everything that can finish hard. don't have to be the hardest biting but do have to be durable. If I see a dog that is above average everything that can finish like a champ I would have no problem giving it a try mixing into it. I don't have the experience that some do that look for this but some swear by the batcros. That's the only way they'll do business. 6 of one half dozen of the other. Well never know unless there are universal callcard standards with documenting the percentages etc etc that ain't happening this day and age.

Fonzerella I am new here and just a nobody but i think you should find a forum of your peers, find a mentor, use the search feature and study, or go to some ADBA shows and get with the weight pull guys to start. This is a forum for seasoned working dogs. I am unofficial voice just saying. Not trying to preach but if you want to learn the general basics of this working breed you can pm me and ask away.

Leave the pure for the guys who look at a ped and brag the dogs worth. I have ALLWAYS liked the crossed dogs any way Give me a great bred dog On working dogs over a "pure" dog any day. Good game dogs make good dogs most of the time Im not saying bullshit dogs but a good proven 3way cross off tight stuff that is good dogs has just as good a chance in the brood box as anything look at all the great dogs are cross dogs Hell some of the best producers are crosses. and some of the best dogs are for sure crosses. breed your game dogs to your game dogs and you will get your good dogs.

Is it not possible to have good dogs of pure breeding or is that a dream, just breed best to best of your pure blood and it should get better in theory!!!!!!!

wtf is "pure"? LMAO at these threads because for a successful breeding program you use BOTH. tighter bred dogs offspring conform easier & quicker. crossed dogs have more opportunity of getting diversity in there gene combination.the only thing that matters is the main contribution of gene ( 1-4) generation. you can't add & you can't " enhance " you can only pass on what is there. but at the end of the day it don't mean shit if the folks behind the dogs are dipshits.

Lmfao...good to see I'm not the only one to see a contradiction in logic...ones no better or worse than the other within reason and that being the test lol.

Really bc the numbers seem to say one is much better than the other as far as the caliber of dogs produced! I guess it depends on WHY u want these dogs in the first place. You can tell a lot of a person by asking them about what they have and what plans they have for breeding in the future...

DP that's a crock of shit. what numbers are you talking of? i hope you ain't talking of "rom" because that's a flawed system to start with.

I was talking about performance dogs. There are many tight bred dogs that performed well but most are crosses. And seemed like the dogs that imo were good producers were either crosses or produced best when they were outcrossed. Inbreeding is a tool and I understand its necessary to keep the tight dogs around but the top caliber dogs seem to usually be the crosses. Not saying there aren't exceptions but for the most part seems that way to me.

jay some of the greates dogsd in history were prety line bred, ore based off the same family tornado, zebo, bb red and banjo, midnight cowboy, ch huckleberry, gr ch bo, gr ch pedro, stp buck, butcher boy, chinaman, and many more, iam not saying crosses do not work, but when you line breed or family breed on good dogs you will get good dogs that also produce there likeness, also most crosses that click have very similart blood up close, like bolio/boomerang, or eli/bolio, or eli/carver ppl call them crosses but most of it is down from the same family of dogs.

all those crosed dogs produced best when linebred on, mayday best offspring were when he was doubled up on, same with honeybunch, frisco, bolero, etc etc, all those crossed rom dogs produced when linebred and had a family started off them

There is pure dogs out there most probly will never see them, cause if it were me this dog would probly only make it to school and a good test why kill off the pure when you can work the cross. Dont get me wrong the pure has to be as good if not better than the cross on the yard

True Boze,I don't consider line breeding and inbreeding the same thing. Line bred dogs generally have outs but not always.
