I have to agree with ATEXAN and others, I cringe whenever I hear about the breed being used for personal protection work. ><

I don't understand what part of taking a breed created to see its task through to completion no matter what cost and then using it in personal protection work sounds like a safe and smart idea to anyone? The APBT is not dangerous because for the most part they are not manbiters, why deliberately use one for that purpose.

 

this is very funny.....i remember reading in a richard stratton book ,many years ago ,that these dogs (GAME BRED)were the finest home and personnal protection dogs available....and that is after testing all manner of other breeds.
who is right and who is wrong....who has taken what they have read and believed it...who decides what these dogs are used for and not used for???
the only problem i see in the op is the "buddy".........the dog is doing nothing more than acting out his inherited intincts........this "buddy" sounds like hes out of his depth with the object of his fascination........it reminds me of an old saying...."be carefull what you wish for.....you just might recieve it"...LOL

 

didnt have to read it soon as i saw its line was bred for PP i wasnt shocked...anyone breeding apbt for protection is a tit imo and a tit wouldnt have a clue how to breed good bulldogs..cull the dog before it brings more negative media to the breed.

 

i agree gog...but their are plenty of BUDDYS around, and plenty of breeders supplying these BUDDYS.....unless the root of the problem is adressed , culling the dog,or dogs of this type will have no bearing on negative media exposure....ALL NEGATIVE EXPOSURE IS THE FAULT OF HUMANS NOT DOGS.

 

We live in a different time now, where breeds are being banned as a whole. I'm sure no matter what task you trained a bulldog for it would excel and whip any other breed. I just don't think having a dog bred for gameness and to never quit being used for personal protection is a wise choice with the light the breed is already being falsely seen in today... I'm sure you can turn an APBT into a beast of a personal protection dog, I'm just saying there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, you know?

 

yes adivina...i agree completely....you can only do the right thing on an individual level....do what you think is right ...i do not worry what others are doing....or what their breeding.....and i do not think they are interested in listening anyway.
i personally believe these dogs are heading for a ban regardless....society has decided their is no use for these types of dogs......it is like what don mayfield had to say...they have sown the seeds ,now they are reaping the harvest.just keep your head down, and dont put your self or anything you either own or breed in the spot light........just take care of your own business....what will happen will happen regardless.....

The part that concerns me most about this is, the breeder is willing to help with issues that are obviously very serious, but the owner can't be bothered to travel an hour to get his dog trained right before it kills someone? Sounds to me like he isn't ready to own a protection animal at all. Hell, not having a car is not even an excuse I would accept - I'd be muzzling and crating that sucker and jumping on the first bus or taxi I could find not having a car was the issue...
