It could be a birth defect or an injury from it's mother but either way it isn't going to bother anything, in fact I think it adds character.

my cousin had a heavy bred butkus, mayday bitch who had a broken tail i doubt in was birth defect, but i dont know. she was a good looking dog though and like it was said it added character... if it bothers you look into seeing if it could get snapped back since its a puppy it should heal fine im thinking. it wouldnt bother me though and i dont even know if the vets could do that so dont take me to seriouslly on that with out looking into it. good luck

a man sorry about giving misinformed info. the bloodline was irelevent and they cannot snap the tail back into place. look it up they said you can make a splint out of popcicle sticks and tape it firmly arround the tail and leave it like that. it depends on what part of the tail it is located that determines the severity. I looked that up, but the bitch my cousin had was broke it the middle and it didnt bother her or anything like that. it gave a funny tail wag, but that was it. they didnt really worry about it either and she lived 12yrs. they say its not a vet issue and they cant really correct it man. just look it up becasue i may be wrong again. sorry i couldnt really give a definate answer good luck with the pup it should turn nice though.

That is not a broke tail. It is called a "Kink Tail" and it is a genetic fault.

Nice discussion. The question is it a genetic fault or is it broken ? You'll never know unless you've seen it happening. I know there's said a lot of breeders would never breed to a dog with a kink tail because of it being a genetic fault in skeleton structure. It's said that the fault now shows in the tail of the dog but what if the deformation is genetically passed on to siblings in another area of the skeleton ?

I add i find it hard to believe a pup breaks his tail in a womb.

Of course all being cosmetics if the dog has a kink tail cause itself cant do the dog no harm.

  13. as i i breed the pup it was on day 3 i noticed the kink i must photo the kink again in diffrent postions

it looks like a kink tail indeed. from what i understand many cull pups with a kink tail cause it can produce pups with spine defects

Seriously? This is a gamedog forum...is this really the first time some of you have seen a kinked tail? dont breed it.

^^^ I'm glad you said that, I was beginning to lose faith.^^^ Without a doubt, that is a kinked tail. I had a bitch bite a pups tail while severing the umbilical cord and ya know what happens..... the pups tail gets the chop too. A pups tail is pretty much the same consistency as soft cartilage at birth. It's more prone to being bitten completely off than broken.

Exactly what I was going to say. I had a pup at my house years ago.. the ''breeder'' ditched the mum and the last pup with a kinked tail. She was placed with a family and grew up to have spinal issues, had to be medicated for pain for many years and was eventually euthanized when management was failing. I actually just boarded a dog with a similar tail. Tried to post a pic but I can't get it working for some reason...

I wouldn't put the pup down because it has a kink tail but I wouldn't breed it. It may be a great dog.
