i had the hilliard bitch when i lived in the city (SF). if i were to walk a dog like her down the city streets today i'd be arrested and she'd be taken by the do-gooders.

there ain't much else to do up there!
i spent alot of time myself in mendocino, i even had an invite to become a deputy sheriff in the county. my friends at the time got a big kick out of that, i'm not what you would call "law enforcement material".
my favorite spot in california is round valley, mendocino, beautiful spot and not cold and foggy like the coast.

  10. Yeah the city has strict laws regarding Pitbulls now, if I'm not mistaken. From what I know a person cannot own an un-altered Pitbull in the city limits. I know the entire state has the same spay/neuter law, but I believe that in SF a person cannot own an un-altered Pitbull NO MATTER WHAT, while in the state a person can get a licence to keep an intact dog for show, breeding, ect. I believe Covelo is in round valley, it's a beatiful place with a long winding mountian road to get there.

All in all I'm leaning twards getting one of Joanie's pups off the XXX Litter. I did a little looking around and could'nt find much info on this dog other than his ped and offspring. If anyone knows a little about this dog PM me..

Wouldn't mind hearing more of your experience with Sorrells dogs or the Dilliard dogs man. If you got the time and you don't mind. Pm me if it's easier but I'd really appreciate it.

As much as I hate to say it lol. Wouldn't mind hearing about your experiences also Oldgoat. I'd appreciate it.

Yeah he was a pretty good dog and companion. I was never able to get anything off him though. I could have bought his dad but he was a very old dog at the time. Now I wish I would have taken the trip down south to breed to ole RCA

i don't know at this time what it is like, i haven't been those 2 counties in many years. the last time i visited northern california was 2006 and to tell you the truth i couldn't wait to get out of the state. i had to spend a few days in vallejo, if you're from SAC you know what that town is like. i did get down to the city for a few days on my motorcycle so that was tolerable, but i would never be able to live there again. i need my freedom and "space" and those 2 things are not found in the city.
if you are looking for another place to move i would recommend getting out of california altogether, from what i can see the best days of the state are behind her. i'm glad i got to spend many years there but when i go back i see a state that has taken freedoms (dogs are just one example) and economic opportunities away from its citizens.

Sorrells I've 'seen' were very good dogs would go and not stop for sure I found them lacking alittle athletic ability if you got one mixed it with jeep would probably do great ...But how close to the dogs I knew 15+ years back who really knows ?

    Humboldt County?
Did you know the Goodwins who had a couple of antique stores up in around there?
I think it has closed down a few years back.
Knew them pretty good. They were from my home town.

in my part of the usa we never saw many dogs from bert. i had a couple of friends that went to his yard and bought pups off sailor so i got to watch those grow up. one was bigger than the other, the big one was powerful white dog with buckskin patches. he had the biggest cutters i've ever seen on a dog. he was raised as a pet and turned out to be cold with human agression issues. the other off sailor was around 40lb. and not put together nearly as good as the big one. he was undershot, had small weak teeth, very little strength and even less talent, a little bit of heart but not enough to bet a nickel on.
these are just 2 of the dogs i saw, bert and/or jonie probably just sold these kids what they thought was a pet quality dog. i'm sure at that time (20 years ago) bert was selling or placing every pup so someone had to end up with the culls. the best probably stayed on bert's yard or went to partners where they would find there way home later in life.
i still regret not having gone to see his yard and maybe pick up a dog as good as the hilliard bitch i had.

  20. Can't say that I have, but I dont know that many people here.. I just came up here to go to school..

    @ Laced,

From what I can tell, Both Humobldt and Mendo are extremely Bulldog friendly in terms of a pet.. I dont think people would like the idea of a full fledged bulldog yard up here. Matter of fact, I would venture to say that the American Pitbull Terrier is the MOST COMMON DOG in humboldt county. I would'nt be exagerating when I say that I see at least 3 or 4 different pitbulls a day in Arcata, a city of about 26,000 people.
