    M.A.D.`S GRAND CHAMPION GABE

Grand Champion a.k.a. the Southern Terror, the 5X winner Gabe was bred by Carl Mims in North Carolina. Purchased for $250.00 as a pup by Billy Shores in Alabama, for which a star was born. Rolled out as a pup, Gabe displayed all the fine qualities of a real Bulldog and he was matched for his first time into Burpo’s AK-47, a 2X winner at 42 pounds. The show starts out fast with both dogs swapping holds and then Gabe hits the button and it’s downhill for Burpo’s dog.
Turn called on AK-47 at 17 minutes and at :22 he won’t come across. Now Gabe has stirred up talk with the Dogmen in the south. People like Norman K., Mclitoche, Ladnier, Favre & Culpepper. As others talked about the win, many people grew a strong relationship with the dog called Gabe. Now for his second opponent, Big Frank’s Mudd. This match drew a lot of spectators because of the impressive win over AK-47. Everyone felt that AK-47 was a talented young dog and was considered game by many. Big Frank’s Mudd had his share of spectators brewing from Florida back through Mississippi. This show was
predicted to test young Gabe because of the style of Mudd, a dog said to be deep game. From the start the dogs were trying to display dominance, Mudd wanted the stifle and he hit his marks. Gabe, barely two years of age, was getting his spots too as he was up front. Both dogs got where they wanted to be and made things happen but Gabe was clearly getting the job done over Mudd. At 40 minutes Mudd begins to show the wear and at 1:03 it is ashes to ashes, dust to dust as Gabe shows a lot of finish. The state of Alabama is now in disbelief as talk of Gabe is spewing all about through the Deep South, we are all very proud of him. At 2 ½ years old Gabe is going for his Championship and everyone wants a piece of the action and Billy Shores gives what little he could as the whole crowd wanted to bet! Ole Emmett A. from Alabama says he has the cure for this dog Gabe, he says his dog Blackie is the medicine to calm Gabe Fever. Well, when it comes to Gabe Vs Blackie, it is Gabe all the way as Blackie is put to the
floor and kept there for 43 minutes. Now the notorious Gabe is The Champion Southern Terror Gabe! Talk of studding Gabe was not yet in the forecast, this amazing individual has Grand Champion written allover him. Victim #4 was to be harder than expected as Mr. Steve’s Red Dog stayed even for about 30 minutes, then Gabe started hitting his spots and the damn broke loose. Steve’s Red Dog could not scratch at 1:07. Now Gabe was to be feared by everyone with a show dog ranging from 42 to 44 pounds. Gabe was set out a whole year open and no one wanted to match into him. The overthrow of Alabama!!! Mark Davis, a young Dogman in Texas, was very pleased with what he had heard about and saw of Gabe. He started an entire state feuding, as everyone just couldn’t believe that the Gabe dog was from Alabama. Money isn’t supposed to buy everything, but it bought Gabe! Now in Texas in the hands of M.A.D., they brag heavily on the Gabe dog and no one wants to match into him; from Bobby Hall to James Crenshaw everyone gave this dog a pass. Famous Dogmen were hiding in the brush watching Gabe as M.A.D. prekeeps him for who or whatever challenges him. Finally a show for Gabe comes up and two weeks before the deal he comes up lame, he fractured his leg! M.A.D. can’t believe what the vet says, as there is no mark on the dog, he is limping though and the x-ray showed a fracture.
The solution is for the Doc to put an iron plate in Gabe’s leg, he’d have to sit for twelve months and let this heal properly. He is then hooked to go into Steve & Terry’s Missing Link, ten to a side and Gabe is going a bit heavier as this one is at 43 pounds. Gabe wins at :43 as Missing Link is unable to stay up under the high ability that Gabe is instilled with and he is now GR CH Gabe.
Now with limited breeding, GR CH Gabe is cloned. Bought at 15 months of age by D&D due to the finances of Mark Davis, Gabe Jr. is now on his quest to join his sire. Gabe Jr. is showing to be of the same caliber as he just won #4 recently in :25. D&D

Very nice read! Unless you've tried or been part of A team that's tried A person just cant imagine how hard it is to make A Grand Champ!! You go into tuff competition like Gabe went into most times even though they make A decisive win it seams to take A little bit out of them. Then word gets out and there hard to get hooked up. I really does take an exceptional dog, conditioner, handler, all the while keeping him healthy. Tuff very Tuff!! Again thanx for sharing!

The breeding of Gabe could go own as one of the greats. Hard Tack and Carolina Flo clicked as well as any other. Down from that breeding was Tar Baby and Louie, and from there down to Rainbow. We had a number of dogs off Rainbow bred to the Red Boy dogs, and few when bred back to her family. 100% game in every one we had. Not always a true match dog, but never faced with a scratch they did not make. In turn the females off this line thru the same. Hard Tack/Carolina Flo thru dogs that in turn thru dogs. Great family.

Rainbow thru Layla and Bo. Both exceptional. Bo went into a Mayday/Deadlift male at 57lbs. He was a pressure biter. He left no marks, just swelling. In :20 balloon like bulges were all in the dogs chest and back end. Around :23 or so a kidney shot ended the deal and at :30 he fell. Layla should have been matched as she was skull drug against some good ones and showed to be a match dog. One of the traits is an ear piercing hollering to be let go. Some called these yells a 'three county holler'. Bo the same. Gabe I heard was the same. When Bo won he continued to holler and try to fight in the crate on the way home. We had to roll the windows down for the first thirty minutes of the ride as he was still mad about the whole thing.

Mr. Mims has made a mark as big as any one one in these dogs. An all timer of all timers.

It broke the skin in some places but not a lot.

GRCH Hargrove's Rufus was the same.

Not comparing their records as Bo won twice and died unexpectedly while trying to line up #3.

True, Rufus did at least his last two with minimal hardware, minimal at best.

the hardest thing about a hard mouth dog is keeping the hardware intact...

Was it ever confirmed whether Gabe Jr was a Gr.Ch. or a 1or 2xw?

It's not even a rumor. Common knowledge at this point that Jr had fake wins hung on him. His daddy was the real deal though

A little deeper than that. If the hardware is damaged and it hurts the dogs mouth then the mouth will be affected. If the dog has flattened hardware he can bite just as hard, he just will not do as much visual damage.

Some see damage as lots of mouth, and it is not always the case. A dog with a powerful neck to give violent shakes will do a lot of damage and maybe not be biting as the dog with a boat load of mouth but less violent.

Very few dogs have the jaw pressure to break bones. What they do have is the ability to bite in on place, hold on and the violent shakes makes a certain point in the bone become the fulcrum and all the force applied to that point results in a break.

End of the day a lot of not so heavy mouth dogs are accredited with hard mouth because of their physical power.

My Cornbread dog had freak mouth coupled with extremely violent and powerful shakes. His sister had just as much mouth but her shakes and tears were not as rough. In turn she had "less mouth" than her brother.

Abu had decent mouth, and not so much in shaking department. But what he did have was a scissor action that looked like he had razors in his mouth. He shredded what he bit.

Rufus on the other hand had pretty good shakes, and pretty much no teeth. He bit straight down and things started to swell from deep within. As some of the ol' folks would say, "he is biting when the black blood falls". Rufus drew the dark blood.
