InterContinental Kennel Club (I.C.K.C.) Grand Champion "Tyson" is a large 60lb American Pit Bull Terrier, brindle with a white blaze, born in October 1987. He was bred by Ed Reid, by Reid's "Skipper" ROM out of Reid's "Beauty", making him a full brother to Ch."Max" and Ch. "Dread", as noted in the December 1996 issue.
"Tyson" had an ideal upbringing, being raised in a small village outside London where he had plenty of room to run and hunt as he grew. This early socialisation resulted in him being of good temperament with other dogs, and he often travelled in the back of vans with several lurchers, never causing any trouble even when the other dogs were squabbling.

He was the epitome of what a good Bull Terrier should be, as Harry Clark was quoted as saying, he could do anything any other dog could do and then whip him, be it hunting, weightpulling or manwork/protection. In the field, a good night on the lamp would see the capture of six or seven rabbits, or even the occasional fox, if the conditions were right. This obviously wasn't due to great pace, rather that he would use his intelligence and superior instinct; in fact his ability to hunt up was superior to most working lurchers.

It was the show ring that was to make "Tyson's" name, at the I.C.K.C. shows organised by Ed Reid. He was a strong contender at the weightpull, his best being around 4,400lbs at 56lbs bodyweight, though he was never quite good enough to win on a regular basis, partly due to small feet (a "Skipper" trait). In the conformation ring however, he was to takev first place on a number of occasions. His win at Mill Hill on August 28th 1990, finally giving him his title of Grand Champion.

I am a firm believer in the theory that you get out only what you put in; at his 'peak' "Tyson" wasbeing conditioned for up to two hours per day, a mixture of walking, running alongside a bike and up to half an hour on the treadmill. This, along with a carefully prepared diet, meant that when he was worked or shown he was always in superb physical condition.

As if to prove the famous quote, "Tyson's" final show triumph was to be at a country game fair, in Essex in 1992, where he was to win a trophy with a ...Lurcher on it.! Whilst muzzled and on a lead, due to the restrictions of the DDA, he was to clear in excess of seven feet at the high jump, beating all other contenders of any breed, to take a well deserved first place.

Given date stated above, I'm thinking the Tyson dog won some legal sporting events at Ed Reid's family shows? Couldn't be certain, but most likely?
