LOL ... No it dont ... I'm guessing Crenshaws is a real keep to you. Ok ... can you explain what a real keap to you is and why a keep separates the men from the boys ... higher than you can count can use this keep if they chose too !!

This particular keep is a lot. It is long and it is a lot of work and not a lot of rest in regards to the amount of work involved.

I am not sure if the keep separates the men from the boys, but in jist, it does. Tons of dogs who were not as good as their competition outlasted their competition because of their keep.

Most think fatigue and frustration lead to a dog hanging it up, so if there is any truth to that, then a good keep can hide the cur.

    So there is separation.

I've heard that said too mate and IMO just romantic stories from days gone by that never could be applied either to the men or dogs from your area.. Don Mayfield couldn't even have done it! Anyone who brought a dog north during the 80's-90's only brought the best they had, and for good reason!

A lot said Ch.Klogger was better than Jacko mate.. I can't really say, although I saw both.. Klogger maybe faster and bad intentions, but Jacko was like one of them horrible Komodo dragons, never had a soul, just ate the opponent alive.. Take your pick from the northern dogs of that era mate... Jacko, Klogger, Black Max, Nailer, Gully, Sheena Black, Cheyney, Grizzly, Sonny, Sue, Billy, Dillon and all the ones I can't think of right now.. I guarantee you nobody was bringing 'NOTHING' near them dogs they never rated 100% and weren't prepared to bury :-B

We played Cajun rules bro, although back then we had scarce understanding of them.. Usually the judge only there to make it official and remind handlers who's turn it was to go, I recall some having less understanding of the rules than we did.. No internet back then, we leared from books, magazines and people who made the trip over to the states .. None of that worried the dogs though, they only done their best, some completing scratches that still blow my mind today.

Speaking for myself, I was clueless on feed and conditioning, messed up on loads of dogs, just tried not to fuck up as bad as last time with each new one, I stole what ideas I could from Bob Stevens, Fat Bill, Don Carter and Barney Fife, tried to adapt them and create a decent camp.. In the end we had some success working our dogs on soft sand (lived on the coast) 2 people throwing a hard rubber ball 50 yards and dog did shuttle runs between them.. 5 minute flirtpole sessions on the sand and build from there, combined that with steady jog pace bike/road work, belt mill and walking.. Different sessions on different days, depending on dogs work ethic, style and attitude at the time.. Can't speak for everyone over here, but maybe gives you some idea of how it was for us.

Don Mayfield' brought in his Bulldogs in Top Condition! Lots of great Dogmen were known for their outstanding conditioning. However, There are so many keeps out there. One must start with a Healthy Bulldog.....

Yes Sir and thank you for your honesty. I respect your knowledge and experience. I bought a book of keeps about 20 years ago. A list of a few.

The internet has taken over in many ways. I still enjoy reading books, magazines, the newspapers ect. This is a interesting thread. I know successful folks who did there conditioning with proper diet, Mill work !

A lot of the keeps from way back then look like they were straight from Joe Weider's Muscle and Fitness magazine.

The work out and feed principles were pretty much placed upon the dogs.

The best part is that these dogs are so amazing that they adapted to things and became the all time greats.

The great conditioners from yesteryear were always ahead of their time, always willing to seek out the next best thing.

Maybe the best part is that they were not best secret keepers. They told it, most did not want to listen, then years later they were 'ahead of their time.

Anyone can utilize a keep. I just dont see where the men from the boys comes in to play.
I guess your saying whos willing to put the work in not who's able.
    I'm not seeing you point.
    Who's able in your opinion.
I could do 3 at a time. Every day. The pace is gonna be a little quicker

3 at a time would be a handful, especially if there is a full time job, family life, kids etc. etc.

Not a lot of hours in the day.
