What are your thoughts on Cecil the lion, who got lured out of his sanctuary where he lived, and then hunted down, which took the lion 10 hours to die.......

It must have a fair change, the animal, if not it is no sport. Have nothing against hunting as it is for the good case, if animals and people benefit from it then it is allright.

I feel there will always be ethical and unethical people in the world. In any aspect in life including hunting. It's a double sided coin. The time it took to die is no different to me than shooting a deer with a poor placed shot and now I have to track the animal. It happens. Most hunters I know want to take a clean shot where the animal drops where you hit them. It don't always happen that way. I don't place 1 animal above another on some scale. I haven't read the whole article yet but from what I did read it's written in a way to tug at someone's heartstrings to make them formulate the desired opinion they want you to have. I'll read the whole thing in a little bit. Just got home from work and got a yard to deal with. I'll finish my opinion after I read it fully. From what I did read it does sound like fair chase. Even though they Lured as they say. We do that when hunting. I call in turkey to kill.. I set up areas for deer to frequent with wide variety of things like doe estrus or buck urine or even rattling. Duck hunters call in geese and ducks and use decoys. It's a part of hunting. They unfortunately don't just walk pass ya. Lol.

That sounds highly unethical after reading both articles. To just take the head and leave the rest. Nothing ever really goes to waste as other animals will dine on what's left but that kind of trophy hunting is not what I am advocating at all. That sounded a lot like poaching to me.
I probably should have quoted my responses to each of the articles I read. I always forget to do that though. One of them articles sounded like it was written to inform and the other like it wanted you to crucify the guy lol.

Considering lions sleep between 16 and 20 hours a day sleep there's no sporting in hunting lions.

And you also have the fact that if these parks and reserves weren't managed for hunting and conservation the likelihood is they would be lost to industry.

Us humans just take, take, take.

Sanctuaries are off limits. Animals that are in sanctuaries are off limits. The dentist knew this.

I understand this However, the lion wasn't on the sanctuary when he was shot. How exactly does one know a sanctuary lion from a preserve lion?

That may be true but they are hard to drop in one shot and will attack you before you can put the second one in it. Can turn 180° in less than 2 paces and cover 50 yards distance faster than it took you to read this. Quite a few people loose there life hunting them. They don't walk up on sleeping lions and like any other animal I'm sure they move around when things are moving around them. I hunt bedding areas for deer, it's not unethical, it's smart if you want to bag one outside of the rut. They are hunted 2 different ways. One is over a bait pile. Much less sporting the other is by stalking which is very sporting with any species. What yall think, animals just let you walk up on there bedding areas? They don't they'll smell and hear you coming and evade.

Honestly it's no different than going on any guided hunt. They know where the animals are and where they are going to be at particular times. Any deer, boar, elk, bear etc. hunt is the same way. Private park hunting is never as sporting as free range hunting is.

Not my cup of tea but my buddy who pays a shit load of money to hunt all over North America. Again, not my cup of tea but the very best mounted animal I ever seen is this huge ass wold from Norther Canada. They hunted from horseback and killed a Elk or Moose or something. They field dressed late one evening and was coming back thru when this monster ass wolf was feeding on the left overs. He popped him and they mounted him.

Turn the corner at the stairwell and that fucker will scare the shit out of you.

He and his son say the same. It is actually better for the remaining population and provides a boost to an economy that may not even be an economy without the money from trophy hunting.

I'm one of those sick bastards that think we should leave the Giraffes and Lions alone and use child molestors and such as prey. It would be a bit more challenging for the hunter (sport) and the world would then be a better place. (a contribution to humanity)

Just picturing my ride on the hell express. LOL

I read somewhere where some poachers shot and killed a lion as they nap in middle of the afternoon after a feast. Now I enjoy hunting myself just not this way. I'm speaking of shooting lions from a truck. there's no sport in it.
