For anyone that wants to do bite work with a pit bull.....with all the shit that this breed already goes through because of irresponsible owners, it's just not a good idea. It's setting the dog up to fail, IMO.

Don’t let that happen again lol. I agree with you on most I was lucky enough to train with people like Chad Hunter who trains the dog for MCSO. But my boy lucky had no ha at all if you took the suit off he would get the suit or walk up and lick u. I took him from a guy who used to put pipes sticks rocks in front of him cause all he did was bite shot his teeth were busted. I tugged him daily did flirt work spring pole etc he would pass out with a kong ball in his mouth.

I agree I’m a old well established dude who is very responsible. Nurse in real life and probably owned bulldogs for 30 years and have taken a lot of dog training classes.

I've been around working dogs a lot, mostly bomb dogs. I have met a few mals that do bite work for the police. You cannot go near a mal when it is working. They are too wound up and hyper. I like to say they are feisty. Bomb dogs, on the other hand, are a bit more mellow. But most of those dogs are Labradors. There are a few of them that are a bit feisty, but for the most part, they are mellow.

I'm in the legal field. I've only owned a chihuahua BUT I know a ton about the american pit bull terrier. And I know a ton about working dogs. I just don't think it's wise to train a pit bull for bite work.

A sport dog could transition to PPD based on the individual dog’s genetics and follow on training, but such dogs thru their foundation training in sports oftentimes have learned to only target fabric and not the man. Simply put, a bite suit/sleeve should be nothing more than protection from injury to the decoy. Whereas in sport, the suit is the target - and even a psychological comfort zone for the dog. Muzzle fighting before suit is a technique to help mitigate. This is a complex, controversial topic with many opinions, especially on the internet…let alone considering pit bulls for this training.

I don't necessarily believe a traditionally bred pit bull cannot be a stable and effective PPD - with the correct foundation training and handler leadership/bonding. I see value in a handy, 40-50 pound dog with outsized power and grit when compared to a working shepherd breed. The % of qualified prospects in this regard are lower due to generations of selective breeding for different traits however.

The other issue is most who breed traditional pit bulls, are not versed in what to look for in a ppd prospect. Just not their gig. jmo

A good APBT is friendly to people but shal atack the one who aproach his owners with bad intentions. Never did manwork with them as they are bred for different purposes. Anyway they are capabele for many tasks as they are smart dogs if socialised and proper trained and raised. Great space you got there @par71 dogs looks good. Running one like that freely like yours should be an dissaster in many places, take care good luck

dog is but one layer in a personal security system..and doesn’t think like human in terms of what behaviors constitute bad intentions. a dog can see a curious toddler as a threat to his space, or the mild mannered child abductor as a friend bearing gifts of bacon. discernment and decision to threaten to use or use force via dog attack, or Glock, HK etc., is solely the responsibility (and liability) of the handler.
