If it has teeth well there's a chance that it will bite. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Not Ol'e bb finest moment. As a kid was at a party got in to it with a older fella. He went for a buck knife on his belt. I went for his nose and bit the tip off off. Pure impulse and instinct dog's are no different.

A lady in my weight pull club had a Am staff mastiff mix she use to pull. He was a great dog for many years. Until one day he decided to bite her small son right in the face. She had the dog put down but it turned out the dog had a tumor on its brain causing pressure and made it go mad/crazy.

    It is the old saying
My late father in law was an boxer fancier and one of the males, a sweet trustworthy dog till 10 yrs old turned on him and everyone else around. Brain tumor, dad handled him swiftly and drove to the vet before misery happened.

Shit happens and like BB said, "if they have teeth......"

I'm a bit wiser and a bit more cautious now that I have aged some. There was a time that if it had chance to win I would put up with a lot.

The flip side is true as well (unfortunately) if a dog was deep game, bred well but did not have all the tools need to win I moved him on down the road. Sometimes placing him and sometimes not. When i was turned onto the dogs it was win at all costs. No need to feed non-winners.

I wish I had smartened up sooner and maybe even smartened more than I have. LOL

The guy who got attacked here doesn't know anything about the breed including its history .The dog free roamed with his other dogs Catahoula curs. They were a pack no doubt and sadly had it not happened to the owner possibly much more fragile person.Maybe a child.

We had a lady maybe 120 lbs work her Boerbels with our training group. The pup was 100 lbs; pup’s sire 160 lbs. She wasn’t strong enough to hoist either dog up onto the obstacles, but she looked to be in charge of her dogs - which respected her. You have too see these dogs in person to appreciate their physical dimensions and power potential. Both Boerbels are still green in protection skills but they turned on quick. I can only imagine how heavy and destructive those jaws could be once they get used to using them. I later learned this lady, in addition to importing and breeding Boerbels, also trains horses professionally. Made sense to me then.

@oldguy … i think you hit the nail on the head there … i always had respect for the dogs i had … you have to treat them with respect and not push them into any other zone … the banjo dog was abit of a dirty git in his kennel but i blamed his early upbringing on that but i got told his new owner went to try and correct the dog with an item … no wonder the dog tried to go for him !

Not long after Boerboel dogs became popular in UK, I noticed a woman being pulled all over the place by a monster of a male, must have weighed over 100lbs, the woman weighed no where near it, wearing a mini skirt and 2 inch stiletto heels, funny as fck.

I was 30 years in dogs when the dog I mentioned earlier tried to take me apart, already been bit plenty times, mostly mistakes, sometimes warnings and sometimes malicious, but that dog full on intended killing me, I knew he was a deep and serious type of dog, always treated him with respect and kindness like I do with every dog, but a trigger in his head must have tripped and it was a full on murder attempt.. I learned a lot that day (mostly I'm a cur) it made me much more cautious and changed way I interacted with the dogs ..

I once owned a 48-50lb male called Archie, one of hardest mouth dogs I ever owned, had him up in hills one night working a flirt pole, long story short, I made a fast turn, Archie misjudged distance, he caught my arm in mid flight and shook shit out of me on the landing, genuine mistake but pain and shock went straight through me, I must have momentarily passed out and when I got back up, Archie was stood next to me, still shaking fuck out of the flirt, now if that had been the dog I mentioned earlier, then I know it wont have been the flirt he was shaking:-B

Some are just pure evil … and it will eventually come out …mainly when they fit and in the zone … i havnt had as many dogs as you lot and i think ive been really lucky as i only got my arm / sleeve ragged about by one i had . i did a stupid thing though and put my hand through his kennel door to stroke him ( like i always did ) but this time he was fairly fit and a bit wound up … and one ( a daughter of the banjo dog i mentioned ) nipped me in the groin in frustration at not been able to get to it next kennel mate … this bitch had been nipping my young daughter too on several occasions when she stopped playing with her … she was pts …i couldn't live with myself if she attacked my daughter as she liked to help me with the dogs at the time

Best mate bought a bitch out of this dog. http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/modules.php?name=Public&file=printPedigree&dog_id=253804 Real reason she was bought was because she was just under a year and going dirt cheap. We was still school kids so didn’t have a pot to piss in. She could be bit funny with people she didn’t know. Wouldn’t ever really trust her tbh. Was really high prey driven though, would scream like a malinois to get to anything that moved. That’s about all that was good about her tbh lol . Was nice to have a dog so highly driven though as made it a piece of piss to keep her in good shape. Was told the sire himself was bit dodgy with people. Mind you heard a story involving the dog, the owner and a bloke with a shotgun. So god knows how the dog was raised tbh. Was also told jazzy wasn’t good with people? Not that it means fuck all now. I just thought if this bitch wasn’t owned by obsessed school kids with the dog 24/7 she probably would of been a lot worse.

Never been bitten myself but had a close call and would of been my own fault. Was a young pitbull type dog that lived local. When pups mine and him would play together. Fast forward now and ain’t seen the dog in ages. Spot the dog wearing a muzzle but when I walk over to say hello dogs wagging his tail n seemed to remember me. Thought maybe the owner had the muzzle on to try make the dog look hard. Was sadly that type of owner who wanted a dog for image. Anyway owner pops in the shop and asks me to hold the dog. Thinking I’ve been around plenty of dogs n never seen a people aggressive pitbull yet. I take the muzzle off and dogs sweet with me. Owner runs out from the shop and insists putting the muzzle on so on it goes. Walking on the grass now for a few minutes. Suddenly dog goes from walking forward to turning around to me lol. Legs wrapped tight around my leg and the dog going mental through the muzzle. Was something to feel the dog so tensed up and the sound alone was fucking horrible lol. Remember just thinking I hope the shitty muzzle doesn’t come off. Was no sign it was gonna happen or reason for it. The same dog ended up biting the owners younger brother and he needed surgery so the dog was put down. Dunno what had gone on with the dog but did think fuck ever getting bitten by one.

Another thing I remember was being unsure the first time I was at someone’s house. Their pits would all do the elvis lip thing lol . Tails wagging and friendliest dogs but would all raise the lips as if to smile. Was fine with it in the end but first time I saw it I did look to the owner like “are you sure” lol .

that small bitch was like that, wouldn’t say the bite would be out of being a horrible dog. She would just get frustrated if being held back. Even the wind blowing a pan empty coke can along was enough to have her screaming. Anything near her when she’s pulling on the lead to get to something would be snapped at. Would chase a flirt pole till she was foaming at the mouth. Good dog to learn from I suppose for a pair of school kids.

When we had the Filas we went to a working weekend event. It was two day gathering with a couple seminars, the dogs doing herding work, some conformation stuff and at the end bite work. It dogs from across the gambit, lean and fit, athletically looking 125lb dogs to 175lb honkers.

These dogs are, for the most part, are defensively driven/weak nerved, territorial man aggressive dogs-by nature.

Back then I was 6'3 and 275. Even with the mass and strength of these dogs I could at least lean back and keep mine from moving forward.

This lady got out of her car and out came a 150lb dog and she was maybe 115lbs. This dog drug her across the yard at everyone. There were like five 'almost' bites in the first few minutes.

Sometimes there are some combinations that should not be.

I’ve yet a see a Fila in person but I’d put them in the same category as the Boerbel, Presa, Corso: guardian mastiffs with natural dominance, defensive drives.

I’m 5’7”, never weighed more than 155, probably closer to 140 now after knee reconstruction, hip replacement, modification of training routines, blah blah.. My biggest dog is a lean 75lb GSD Czech import. He’s athletic, as serious as a heart attack with a crushing grip. The day I can’t toss him over my shoulders in a pinch and beat feet, climb stairs…out of a tight situation - is the day I know a dog that size is too big for me.

That is my personal rule of thumb. Others will differ - like that gal with the Boerbels who also trains horses. She at least seemed mentally confident, in her element working large animals.

What I was getting in my last post is there is something to say about having a leadership position (at least psychologically but ideally physically as well) over the dog. Sure some dogs are lost causes in the unpredictable aggression department for whatever environmental/genetic reason, but most imo haven’t been trained properly.

My mentor jokes about being criticized for being an old school, ‘yank and crank’ trainer. But the “all positive only” training system popular these days (like in PetSmart) can be a recipe for disaster with strong willed dogs not accustomed to being subordinate. Even worse, neglecting to train such dogs altogether. Seems that is a common thread in these disaster scenarios like what Bamaman described in the op.

Man dam shame, I will share a honest story about being bitten bye a Bulldog. Back in 2012 i had a yard accident , 1 escape artist named Lil Miss ( rip) got off her chain backimg up slipped the collar over her head at the end of a 25 foot logging chain and got loose, i had 33 Bulldogs at the time and she pick the wrong l bitch to jump on., I here all the hounds raising hell screaming ect. I run out the house in shorts , flip flops and a breaking stick. Lil Miss was OTC fighting with a 14 month 36 lbs bitch that was deep in her chest, so i grabbed Lil miss got the end of the chain and broke the adolescent bitch off of her , .as soon as i got her free,, She latched on my Stomach ! 45 lb Bitch hanging from stomach locked in.. WTF??. Her collar was at the end of her chain. I promise before God, I took about 4 - 5 steps with her hanging off my stomach, jerking, back to the adolescent and literally laid down on the ground. Once Lii Ray.Ray got into Lil miss again she let go of me. True dam story .Smart Bad ass lil 14 bitch rip Lil miss going up hill about 10 lbs on the chain.."Townsend' Raven Oden" killed her 1st at 14 months old. Possibly saved me. Let me tell u guys some Real Talk . When a 45 lb Pitbull is latched on to your stomach jerking man shit, it wasn't any fun. My Lil Queen became my house bitch.... 0302181239a.jpg
