I have only sold a couple three dogs in 30+ years in the dogs so I can't say I have experienced the above when buying/selling dogs.

But I sold a fair number of carpet mills over the years and when I first started I had phone calls and conversations and emails out the ying yang.

So much so I went out and bought a shit load of supplies (bulk), pre-cut a shit load of wood and spent a week building treadmills so they would be ready when someone was ready to purchase. Within a month or so I could not turn around in the shop for treadmills sitting everywhere.

If I had $20 for every time I heard "I'm on the way" "I'm going to buy one Friday" I would waste my money with my 401K. Just saying.

Not on the same scale but dog people generally are full of shit. Again, just saying.

My opinion on breeding with the sole intent of making money is this, lol don't do it, you'll go broke. Lmao. But for real, the quality of the dogs will take a back seat since your motivation isn't bettering the next generation, it becomes peddling for income. You'll look the other way on things that someone more interested in quality won't disregard. Like function, conformation and temperament as well as genetic health. You aren't motivated by quality anymore, that shit dont matter no more, only the sale does. I'm sure there are those that can do both but they are few and far In-between the norm. If anything, breeding and raising pups costs more than you will get back in return financially. I guess unless you charge what these guys do lol. :))

B.S. called someone I know a n****r to his face. Class act there....
This forum is full of M.N. being a complete cunt to folks under 10 different names.

I can't speak on haunches camp.

It's definitely a fantasy. I guess if folks want their ass kissed and hands held they shouldn't be looking for bulldogs. I see that a LOT. Everyone wants a pat on the back and whispered sweet nothings over dogs.

I've spoken to Evo a handful of times. Drove to H town to get a dog off his stuff(not from him but an active camp with his stuff). Evo was always friendly and helpful when I spoke to him(I didn't waste his time and try to be his BFF though).

I freely admit I'm an asshole by nature. Most the ppl I've met who were serious with dogs were the same. It was only once you built a relationship did the edginess wear off.

Often I find ppl want to be treated like a long time customer or friend when they reach out. In my experience that's not going to happen with these dogs.

This is also the only breed of dog that will pay the ultimate price if they don't meet expectations and the breeder bad mouthed over a dog not working out. Takes a certain breed of asshole to deal with that. Then to tell them their animal is worth as much as a labradoodle I'm sure you're not going to be getting Christmas cards and back rubs from them.

Sometimes perception is reality. People sell dogs because it is profitable. There is a shit load of money to be made in not only these but other breeds as well. For whatever reason a guy will not pay rent, face eviction, but fork over thousands for 'the next great one'. And again, not only in the dogs but other 'past times'....'hobbies' as well.

When someone is willing to do that there will always be someone there to take their money.

I have never fell victim to that because one I have never sold that many dogs and I have never really bought a lot of dogs (too cheap). I can't complain about or defend either position. I sort of hang out in the middle and watch both sides clobber one another, usually from afar.

For me it is internet fodder, and I am the guiltiest of reading the bashings with a smile. I should apologize for that. LOL

It is money to be made and someone is always willing to collect, I can't really be mad at that.

I love a good skull dragging on the internet. Lmao. I smile when I read that shit as well. Then debate myself if i should intervien or just let it play out lmao.
I try never to knock the next mans hustle. If one can make 6 figures off these dogs more power to them. I never bad mouth Garner or anyone else who makes a killing in these dogs. Good for them. I'm all about capitalism and if you can stick it to uncle Sam in the process that's even better.

I can see both sides of the coin. I've bought dogs and I've bred dogs. I've bred a lot more than I've bought because I'm frugal too lol. That an making your own is far more rewarding to me personally than buying other people's dogs. If it ain't broke no need to fix it.

There's more than just these 2 guys with this blood. 2 off the top of my head would be American Rebel Kennels or Freedom Born Kennels. I sure like what I see ARK putting together. Same goes for FBK.

There's PLENTY of this blood out there like you said. Same with most popular dogs. You ain't gotta go to Tom to get his blood, or Floyd for his.... If anyone is interested in any line of mutts the source is always a good place to go but it also may not be the best or most cost effective.

I would say about 90 percent of people that call asking about pups are just calling to ask stupid ass questions and probably don’t even have the money then you got the tire kickers or people you don’t even know asking you to farm 1 out and if it turns out to be a good dog they with give you the pick of the litter or breeding rights ect ect ! Can you imagine getting a 100 calls a day and all of them asking 10 stupid ass questions each? That’s 1000 stupid questions a day out of all those calls only 1 actually buys a dog ? Try putting up with that for a year !

Some things are the simply 'the price of doing business'.

The flip side of that is that for the hundred calls per day and 10 stupid questions....for that 1000 stupid questions in only takes one out of the hundred to turn into $1500-$2000-$2500 and more. Then do the math when you fail 70% of the time. Going 3 out of ten is worth thousands upon thousands of dollars. Selling dogs and playing baseball may be two of the only things in life you can fail 70% of the time and rake in the cash.

We can always look at these dogs thru rose colored glasses and talk about how the game use to be or how it should be, but it has not really changed since the first pedigree was written and the first puppy was sold.

Once upon a time every little town had a simple, fire and brimstone, Sunday morning preacher. Add in the ability to make a few dollars and Joel Osteen might be the first billionaire 'Sunday morning Pastor'.

Every endeavor is the same, the exact same, when there is two or three dollars floating around. Dogs no different.

My apologies for not having a lot of faith in my fellow man. LOL

We seem to be talking about, and conflating to very, very different and separate issues. The first: Being involved in the dogs is a hard, thankless, winless (unless the occasion when you get a great dog) thankless, profitless endeavor. There is absolutely no refuting this fact.

The second, entirely different issue is being a decent, honorable person (in todays PC language). Just because one is so damn hard does not mean we should abandon the second. Maybe I am the exception, but I have known dogmen who were both. Then again, what do I know?

I will agree with thankless and hard, and winless but I will never see where selling dogs is not profitable. If it were not profitable people would not do it.

When I had Fila Brasileiros (and if you think the bulldog community can 'click up' you haven't seen anything to the show community) I was at a working weekend in Georgia. This very conversation turned into a heated debate.

My buddy and I made a breeding between two solid dogs but we were not in the click and we were frowned upon.

This was around 2000-2001. I showed up in Georgia from NC on a 84 K-5 Blazer I bought with a salvage title from a flood. I rebuilt the engine and the transmission and cleaned the interior. When our puppies sold I put a few dollars in my pocket.

The lady that ensured me there was no money in selling dogs was getting $1500-$2000 per puppy (neutered to boot). She showed up in a 2001 Dodge 3/4 ton truck with a Cummins diesel, pulling a 36 foot toy hauler trailer with an inside that looked better than my house. The back 12-14 foot was converted into a rolling kennel with some of the best looking aluminum crates I had eve seen. They slid out the back on sliders to be cleaned and slid back in on rails. Incredible set-up.

Based on personal business decisions I made money on my puppies. Based on her decisions, she did not.

    Everything is relative and subjective.

The thing is Tom always had money. Really doubt that he needed the dogs to be honest. I give him credit because he really has invested a lot of time and money over the years.

It pays enough that my dogs buy their own dog food, kennels, shots, vet bills etc. I couldn't do this if they didn't at least pay for themselves however, having said that, what's your time worth? Dogs, especially pups require a lot and all of it is expensive. Like everything else today is. Can I pay my mortgage monthly off the backs of my dogs? absolutely not. Can I afford to raise 11 dogs and have litters 2 or 3 times a year? That I can do. I must just be doing it wrong lol. This shit costs me wayyyyyyyy more money that I get out of it. There is absolutely no comparison. I do it because I have a passion for the dogs. Now if you throw in money made off other aspects of these dogs, then that gamble can very well pay off but I never made some huge profits of breeding a dog or selling pups. It is far more work than profit. It has just helped with keeping the wheel moving forward for me.
