I agree. I know of no other breed that has such high expectations but the fanciers don't think they are worth shit. Lol.
Try to by a mutt labradoodle for 500. :))
But these hard working dogs should be free. I'll just never agree with that mind set. Even if I did not breed them I still would expect them to have value.

That is why I consider anything under $1k to be a very fair deal for a real working example of this breed. I also understand why $1500 for one of the pure Hollingsworth dogs, and $2.5 k for one of the Little Red dogs are prices that are very much in line with he work and expense put into them. I am picking up a well sorted pup for $700 this weekend, and not for one second did I consider haggling over the price, even though I am on a budget.

For a dog that won't even likely see 10 years old. That's crazy money.

Both of the above posts are very true and I have never once held it against a person for selling puppies, or anything else for that matter.

It is money to be made in all dogs because it is what people want not what they need.

I am not a breeder nor a fan of having puppies. I have had a shit load of dogs that were worth breeding but never bred simply because puppies and bitches and breeding does not give me the warm fuzzies....at all. The particular family of dogs I have been on for a lot of years was always 35 minutes from the house and for a number of years they were $300 a piece. Then after a number of years I had dogs placed here til I was done with them. The only string attached when I was thru with them, for whatever reason, they had to be returned.

If I didn't have that then maybe I would have felt the need to breed dogs and maybe even would have sold a few here and there.

When I had Beagles I had a really bice female once and I paid to have her bred by the hottest running beagle within driving distance. She had 7 pups. I kept four and people were knocking down the door for the other three based on that male. I sold them for $200 a piece and felt like I made money. Regardless if there were pups or not I had to feed, water and rake shit anyway. Those puppies may have added 10-15 minutes to my dog time every day. A bag of Puppy Chow, 14 shots, and a bottle of wormer and they fed the bulldogs for a stretch.

Two things factor as well, I am wicked cheap and don't like to turn loose my money, especially on a dog, (like said above) when I know history and odds say he won't make it to where we are trying to go. And two, (and maybe because I am cheap) I have never been able to see the correlation between the higher costing dogs and over all quality.

But with all that said, (babbling) that is just me. Another thread on here is about a guy in NC who has sold maybe more dogs than anyone in history and he may also have tallied the most dollars in history as well. I have never said a cross word about him. I actually think he is a freaking genius. I would even venture a guess he is a pretty big part of why everyone else can get $$$$$ for their dogs.

Oh yeah....I am totally happy. He does not have the paperwork in yet and I told him no problem, to take his time. The plan has been to get a male, but I might get a female and take it back to another good male he has on his yard.

If I did a breeding it would be to get a dog, but the pups would go for $900.

The only reason I might do a breeding is because A: I am semi retired and work part time...I make maybe 2 trips out of the house and am back each time in around 2 hours, so my schedule is perfect. I don't do 10 hour days anymore. And a lot of what I do can be done on the computer.

And B: I enjoyed it the one time I did it. It sure as hell wasn't for the money, I did the math and it came out to around $5 an hour. But I enjoyed the process, and if you don't have a yard full of dogs and can concentrate on just one pregnant female and a litter it can be pretty rewarding.

always made me laugh that. People will pay thousands for mutts with health problems. Yet proven dogs pups sell for cheap. On top of that some people are quick to call someone a peddler for selling some pups. Despite the said person putting in a lot time n risking time as well let’s not pretend. I think everyone deep down knows what a peddler is. Makes me laugh people will view a man who works his dogs as the worst time. Yet simply say awww when they see some cunt earning a living pimping breeds that fetch money. Always made me laugh that it isn’t the people you’d think either. Suppose it’s that old saying never judge a book by its cover. I’ve known people who look like trouble and haven’t got a pot to piss in. They’d rather give a pup away to the right home. Then I’ve known little old women who talk to their dogs n treat em like babies. Who’ve breed season after season. Truth be told after much time arguing online and at shows in my teens. I’ve come to not give a shit what anyone else does with their dogs. Still wouldn’t entertain tolerating cunts for company though.

It is easy to spot a peddler. When three people are selling puppies there are two of them talking to each other. That third guy is the peddler. Just saying.

Just brought my new pup home....very pleased. Drove 365 miles. Ended up getting a totally different dog, a brindle female. I didn't pick her, she picked me. This place was waaaay out in the country where economic opportunities are few and far between. In the city where I live you couldn't touch a well bred dog for $700. My car costs $1.20 a mile to run, plus crate food, etc...that costs as much as the dog.

Guy did a breeding to a sister of this dog:modules.php and I will gladly drive out and pick up a good male. Pups should be on the ground soon.

If your connect is charging you 700 and giving you a play on the stud fee to breed this puppy to why would you out charge him? Seems like you should have him help sell them for his typical price instead of up charging and doing your own thing. Just my opinion.

Don't let them country boys fool you. Just because they don't have a Benz parked outside a $500,000 house doesn't mean economic opportunities are few and far between lmmfao. I've seen a bumpkin in beat up overalls out money 5 dope boys dripping in gold and Italian designers by himself. They fell into the same trap.

Of course. I have built a good relationship with my breeder, but he is no fool. I have seen his bloodline attached to dogs that I know have won local competitions. I waited until after I purchased the dog and drove back home to ask him if he ever "took a look at his dogs" and he said "don't know what that means." He is smart, even though we have a good relationship he is not going to say a syllable that could possibly get him in trouble. I also pulled up in a $60k vehicle and now my next dog is going to cost more, LOL.

He just did a breeding to a full belly sister of this dog, a confirmed champion, what do you think? modules.php It would be the same father of my dog bred to a sister of Ch Ringo. I would then have a half brother/sister pair.

I originally was not going to get a female but I did not like the way the dog I originally wanted was acting (a male) so I picked up a female who I didn't pick, she picked me. She is brindle, made me think of you Ssdd, LOL. I like her so much that I am thinking of getting another dog from him.

Good question. If I pick up another pup from him (I think it will be his male bred to the female I mentioned in the last post) the dog is going to cost more than $700. I got a hell of a deal. However, I had to drive nearly 400 miles and there was some nasty traffic. I live in one of the largest cities in the country, and everything costs more here. Plus, this next dog will cost more than $700. Say the pups turned out (people on this forum may think I know nothing about dogs....but I am not going to breed dogs that don't show me something) and I breed. People are asking $1500 in the city for good dogs. People don't realize how much it actually costs to run a car. Tires for my car are more than $300 each, gas is only a small part of the $1.25 per mile it costs to run, so a 400 mile drive cost $500 plus a day of your time. The ability to get something local adds a lot of value. Plus, I am going to raise the litter indoors if I do a breeding.

And yes, I am going to tell people about his dogs. There is garbage being sold on the Texas/Loiusiana and other FB pages for a lot more than that. I will help him all I can, he deserves that.

Eeehhh what I think doesn't matter. Just like what you think doesn't to me lol.

I try hard not to tell other grown folks how to live or what to do. I don't always achieve that goal but I work at it.

If you're happy that's all that matters. I would've done things differently but we're not in the same positions.

My thoughts on the brindle mutts is changing lol. But I'd still rather have a yard full of red dogs.

So the question is, is being a belly mate to a 3 time winner a big plus, or not?

  19. Ssdd

    Ssdd CH Dog

Depends on the littermate. Will it help sell a pup? I reckon. Would I nut on myself and do a back flip through traffic over it? No...

But that doesn't mean the next motherfucker won't.

I can make a couple calls and get what I want. May have to work a little over time to get it done but that's how I look at things. You can't do the same(no offense) so I'm always going to look at it from that angle. You have to look at ot from yours.

Of course. You are what I would term a hard core dog man. I am a devoted and serious...but lets be honest, recreational dog lover. So what you say makes sense. We all have our areas of expertise. I have the connects, expertise and ability to produce elite human athletes, while you have the connections and resources to produce elite dog athletes. I wish I had the resources to produce the worlds best dogs, but I simply do not, however I do the best I can with what I have.

I don't have extensive connects, but if I had unlimited funds I would buy a Little Red female, pay to have it shipped to me and then get some frozen sperm off Hollingsworth Bull/Dolly and then pay to have my vet implant it (I would not want to take the chance on my own). A few years back I had the money to pull off something like this, but my situation has changed and I am on a budget. Actually, 12 years ago I did have 2 dogs off champions (off Grand Champions/Roms) bred out the ass and I tested the dogs but I ended up in a situation where I did not have the time to do a breeding properly. Ironically I was involved in a business venture that eventually went south which is why I am on a budget today.

If I had your connections and location I am sure I would go with that. However, I can only go with the cards dealt to me. Plus, while they would get, and have to pass "a look" ultimately my dogs are just pets. Having said that, I am committed to breeding dogs that do not damage the traits/characteristics upon which the breed was founded. My ultimate goal in a breeding would be the ability to pick the best dog from the best breeding I could do.
