WVPBH was created out of the growing need of over-populated APBT's and AmStaff's within the state. Around 2006 our attention was brought to the needs of well-deserving dogs that were facing difficult and dismal futures in the walls of shelters state-wide. We were inundated with requests on a daily basis to help a bully that had been involved in situations that could have been avoided had the dog(s) been in a responsible and caring environment.
Each dog brought into WVPBH receives required vetting and medical care, basic obedience training and socialization. In other words, a second chance at finding a well-deserved home filled with the love and devotion the breeds require.
With more than 20 years experience with the bully breeds, the founder of WVPBH designed a rescue program that partnered rescuing with educating. The original mission was simply to rescue dogs in need. But quickly it was realized that until the reputation was restored and the public was presented facts rather than media stories and common myths, qualified homes across the state would be a difficult task for a breed specific rescue. The need for rescue AND education went hand-in-hand, and WVPBH took the challenge without hesitation and implemented D.A.R.E.S.
Through the D.A.R.E.S. program, we visit cities and counties statewide, as well as in neighboring states, providing successful programs designed to provide community safety from dangerous dogs of all breeds. As importantly, we promote protection for animals from cruel, neglectful and criminal owners by supporting and assisting law enforcement to ensure punishment and fines for the forgotten and injured dogs we pull from shelters.Interact
