  1. Please, crosspost this. As many people as possible NEED to see Gage’s story... This literally brought tears to my eyes... Such a beautiful life, wasted at the hands of ignorance.... R.I.P. Gage... I enclosed two slide shows of Gage from his owner’s page. I will warn you, the pictures in the second slide show are graphic, so if you have a weak stomach, or even a weak heart (emotionally that is), I don’t recommend watching the second video, as it is pictures of the scene. If you DO decide to watch the second slide, please make sure your kids are out of the room. And, please, for Gage’s sake, repost this anywhere you possibly can. His story needs to be heard!

the worst part is what was spoken of as a loving family dog is dead but the idiot owner is at fualt once again, this dog jumped in someone elses yard, if Gauge was kept as the breed should be kept (chained/kennel) this dog would still be living with his family. The owner let their dog roam their yard free, these dogs can easily scale 6ft fencing and it is very common.

Sad story but the owners at fault IMO

the pet community on this forum and elsewhere need to learn from those who contain bulldogs the proper way, dont let these dogs ever have a backyard free to do as they wish. A bored Pit Bull is mayhem waiting to happen, period. Jumping fences and killing neighbors dogs or just jumping fences and giving others the free opportunity to blast your dog

if this story is passed on as you want, it should be as an example of what can happen to your dogs if not kept the proper way

    and I am correct

  3. Correct but also to show you can't put complete trust in everything. He was shot in their own yard by a supposed "friend" so this is just to show dog owners in general they need to be careful b/c this could be their pet if they don't really know thier surroundings. All dogs I don't care what kind should be supervised at all times when running loose.

    True

people are looking for excuses to kill the breed, dont give them any free run at it. Sucks they lost their dog like that

So you think it's the owner's fault that their dog was shot, in THEIR OWN YARD? There is NO proof that the dog ever even jumped the fence! That's just what the psycho neighbor 'claims' happened. Even if he did jump the fence, he had retreated back to his own yard...which is nothing he should have been shot for. Not all APBTs are fence jumpers, not all of them require to be kept on chains or in kennels. Yes, perhaps she could have been supervising the dogs better, but I still don't think you can say that her dog's murder is her own fault.

I'm not going to read it again but I believe it said the dog had jumped their fence before and you are wrong, all APBTs should be confined when not supervised. You say not all of them jump out, yeah but what if one of the ones that doesnt jump out decided to do it one day and cause trouble? Was it worth it?

My dogs are chained and when I come home theyre always in the same spot I left them in, everytime.

    Very simple

and yes I think theyre at fualt, their dogs dead because they didnt confine him. Thats where the problems started, you cant argue that

  7. If you would have read correctly the first time, there was no proof the dog jumped the fence. The wife was home and hear nothing but the shot itself. The dogs were quiet. There were spots on the collar where it was believed the man tried to pull the dog over the fence and the angle of the shot, there was no way he shot the dog while in the air. That was a point blank, straight on shot. IMO, there is NO WAY the owners are at fault. NO WAY! This was done out of sheer ignorance and just cruelness. Simply uncalled for, no reason(so it seems thus far). No one is to blame but the man with the gun. Period.

i read it agian and you are correct, I should have taken more time you read it through the first time

    but it did say this

The house had a three foot high wall and didn’t have a gate at the driveway

which is clearly lacking repsonsibility as a dog owner. The dog probably did jump the 3ft high fence. The dog shouldnt have been shot but the owners didnt do their part in keeping a proper yard and set up for the dog.

my stance stays at them making the first mistake of not confining their dog which enabled the situation to occur

Dear LORD...that is some HUGE font!!! hahaha. I agree, the dog should have either been being supervised, or had better containment. I'm not arguing that point. But from the way it's written, it seems that the dog was shot out of pure hatred, not from tresspassing onto the neighbor's property. That's why I'm saying...I don't think it's nessicarily the owner's fault the dog was shot. Seems the neighbor had it out for him, seeing as he was overheard saying he'd kill the dog for barking. I think there are some underlying issues there, that we obviously can't see. Perhaps he just thought the dog was loud...and if that was the case, he could have been shot on a chain or in a kennel. The real thing that bothers me...is that it was obvious the neighbor hated the dog...and then knew he had already threatened the dog's life before...so why would they ever allow the dog outside unsupervised? If my neighbor said they'd kill my dog, I wouldn't let my dog out of my sight, not to mention...I'd be thinkin about moving.

  10. My bad, I didnt see where it said no gates. I assumed maybe the wall went around the entire yard, with the entrance and exit possibly being through the house. My mistake. But I still wouldnt say it was the owners fault. Does sound like the neighbor just hated the dog. Who knows. It's hard to say being that this is a one sided view.

Well, to be a good breed advocate, you must go overboard to avoid trouble. Plain and simple. Some folks say, "it's my right to be here", well, go ahead and stand up for your right to have your dog running loose, and watch your loving dog get blown away. It happens time and time again. We should all go overboard to make sure our dogs do not end up in the papers.

Ummm, the owner specifically said the dog jumped into the neighbor's yard and then jumped back across...after being shot I presume.

I agree that this dog is dead solely becuase of it's owner. She was too busy touting how great and wonderful her dog was, but instead of taking proper care of her dog and being a responsible owner, she was too busy bragging about owning a "pitt bull."

If I'm out in my backyard doing something, especially if my son is out there, and a dog jumpes into my yard you better believe I have every right to defend my child and myself.

And as with everything, there are 2 sides to every story. All we were told is that this dog was a perfect angel and didn't even give in to natural canine instincts to hunt prey or roam and check out new territory. There's a good chance that this dogs wasn't a perfect angel and the neighbor might've known it thus his reaction.

Regardless, the owner needs to quit passing off the blame on someone else and finally be responsible and accept the blame herself. I'm sure she won't, but I wonder how many more dogs will die under her "care".

  13. Hi, my name is Sherry and I know Gage's family and story. This is in NO way the owners fault.

Just a couple things that I think people got confused by the original posting of the story:

1st- The three foot wall was in Portugal.
2nd- There is a 5 foot chain link fence in Louisiana - shooting occured
3rd- Gage was in the owner's backyard
4th Gage never left their yard unless on a leash.
5th- Gage has never jumped the fence...In Portugal or Louisiana.

The neighbor had on numerous occassions made remarks about "Shooting Gage if he didn't stop barking"

Keep in mind this: Gage was rarely let in the backyard alone because of
these threats. He was let out with the families other
dogs that morning to do his "business". Shana (mom)
then heard a loud sound and went to the backdoor and
saw Gage lying on the ground dying of a gunshot
    wound to his neck..

Gage was a very lovable and extremely friendly pitbull. He was well trained and well behaved.

    His crime: He barked....

I can add more if anyone is interested in knowing the real story.

I have put together a petition for Gage. I ask that everyone please take a moment and think...What if this were your dog? Shana and Britt did absolutely NOTHING wrong...

Here's the link....If you could crosspost this link to everyone you might know..I will be presenting this to the District Attorney before trial.

    Thank you...

I also have done a memorial video for Gage's family. If you are interested in watching the link is below.

There is always two sides to every story and I would like to hear what the other party involved has to say.

I mean, was this dog a little angel? Or did he kept antagonizing the neighbor? If this dog was lose in the back yard he had plenty of chances and time to get into trouble. Pitbulls are not lap dogs that you can just leave unattended.

Unless this guy shot this dog for no reason what so ever, then yes, I'm all for Cage's family, but come on, let's be fair and hear what the other party has to say.

My personal feelings about this whole ordeal is that it looks like these people are taking this incident to the extreme. Extremes are never healthy, unless it is a human being who was murdered, then yeah, this guy needs to be locked up, but this was a dog.

    PETA, HSUS = EXTREMIST

These folks considered their dog their child. I know quite a few people like that. I have a 9 year old house dog that was like my child until we had our daughter. Anyhow, though the family has gone to the extreme about the whole thing, I can see where they would be extremely upset. If someone were to shoot one of my pets for no good reason other than barking, Im afraid of what I would do to that person...Why they took pictures of the dead dog and plastered them all over the internet is beyond me. Do you know how many neighbors shoot eachothers dogs? This isnt the 1st time its happened and Im pretty sure it wont be the last. Doesnt make it right though. JMO, DJ.

  16. First off: Would you like to see the crime photos..??? I'll glady share...It fully shows how close he was shot and also.....the other party MR. STANFILL has since been arrested for violating the Permenant Protection Order that Gage's family had against him...Reason for PPO: Mr. Stanfill had a boat that the Burkes allowed him to keep on their land as he (Stanfill) had no lake access....This went on for a couple years until the day that Gage was shot...The Burkes asked Mr. Stanfill the day Gage was shot to remove the boat and he refused saying the property belonged to him ...(just after telling the police that the Burkes had allowed him to leave his boat on THEIR (BURKES) property. So..to settle the debate the Burkes had to get a survey done to show the property line and the survey did show the boat and pier is the BURKES land..Now keep in mind when the Sheriff first told Mr. Stanfill to remove the boat the day Gage was shot he said it was HIS PROPERTY and the Burkes would have to hire an attorney to evict him. So the Burkes had a survey the survey done and it was then that the BURKES got the Protection Order to keep him off their land. Mr. Stanfill was warned by the police once when he crossed their property and the VERY next day he took it upon himself to walk on their property (not thinking the family was home because there were no cars in the driveway.) He proceeded down to the lake to get his boat (which the police had told him the day before that he was not to allowed on the Burkes property or he would be arrested.)I was on the phone with Shana when this occured and they (BURKES) immediately called the police (as Mr. Stanfill was slowly pulling his boat from the lake) and within 5 minutes their were 3 squad cars and he was arrested...Does that say anything for his character....

And also...you want the OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY...IF you can locate him and get him to OPEN HIS MOUTH good luck....The family was interviewed by the news station (I'll be glad to forward you the link) and when they went next door to speak with Mr. Stanfill he cowardly had her girlfriend tell the news crew that he was not available for comment.....

And NOW....he doesnt even live in the state anymore..He was fired from his job as a College Professior.....

As for Gage just being a dog....He was more than a dog...He was a son, brother and best friend to so many people..When a dog is in his own yard....fenced in yard....how can one find any fault in the owners...Does it fall back to Gage being a pitbull...Is that what makes you question the story....???? I cant help but think yes but I can say with certainty...WE ARE NOT TAKING THIS TO EXTREMES....

When someone takes a rifle and open fires into someone else yard, in a neighborhood....THATS EXTREME

When animals are starved, beaten and killed.....THATS HUMANS GOING TO THE EXTREMES...

And you.....YOUR POST IS WAY EXTREME..

I hope you never suffer such a tragedy as this family has but if you do, please don't contact me for any support.

    Dont get to upset here...

Your probably not going to like what I'm going to say here either...

A fenced yard is not enough for a an APBT and no they should'nt be allowed free rein of one, for all the abvoius possibility's. It's sad that this has happened, but had theses owners took it one step further to protect thier pet they would have had him on a chain or an outdoor run. An I think that's all any of us are trying to say.

Personaly I dont know how I would react to somthin like that, but off the top of my head it wouldnt be good.

Is this realy a animal cruelty case or is it civil?

  18. Gato

My comments don't have anything to do with the dog being a Pitbull. It is kind of silly for you to accuse me or even question my motives because of the breed type.

I didn't mean to make you upset lady. I'm just voicing my opinion, as you are voicing yours.

And no, it wouldn't be a tragedy for me if one of my dogs get shot and killed. So I wouldn't come to you or anyone else for that matter for any support.

Bottom line, I think these whole thing is being blown way out of proportion, that's all I'm saying.

  19. BOTH!!

The crimal trial date is August 26th...there will be a 6 person Jury picked on the 25th...This man was charged with "Felony Aggravated Animal Cruelty"...FelONY

Second...There is also a civil suit in process.. There has been a lawyer hired who will be representing the Burkes....

I'm sorry but I so disagree with this "you shouldnt let our pit run loose in its own yard (fenced in yard) ever without supervision...We are talking about almost 2 acres of fenced in yard...We are talking about letting 4 dogs out for there first morning I can't hold it potty break...There were 3 other dogs "RUNNING LOOSE" in the yard...why gage????

Its a really sad world when you cant trust the safety of your dog to let them out for a brief potty break....These people were very protective of Gage...He was rarely outside alone...And on this particular morning it ws 45 degrees and Mr. Stanfill just happened to be outside WITH A SHOTGUN looking for a snake he saw earlier...Give ME A BREAK...All his stories make no sense...It's hard to keep your lies straight...

This is nothing short of a HATE CRIME..Mr. Stanfill has no public comment....WHY??? IF he is so innocent why doesnt he provide his SIDE to the people WHO WANT TO HEAR HIS SIDE ...

I don't know what else to say....Really....This is a prime example of why I put more faith and love into my animals and rescuing animals...for they are deserving....and they don't judge...A pitbull is just another breed people!!!! It it humans who have ruined this breeds reputation....

  20. Well that says it all....You are free to your opinions....just as another other person but I take great "SHOCK" in the fact that you are so cold hearted as to say the shooting & killing of one of your own dogs would not be a tragedy...

I don't think I can come up with a "GOOD WAY" to reply to that so I will just let people see it for themselves what a animal lover you are....
