You are right mam, I'M NOT AN ANIMAL LOVER, but I like my animals, I enjoy my animals, I take great care of my animals, I protect my animals and I respect my animals. And I don't loose perspective as to differentiate between an animal and a human being.

Everything has it's place and animals to me are not my first order of priority.

With this I'm not saying that that ass hole was not at fault, no no no, but again, I'm just saying that this situation was blown out of proportion.

 

You can agree or dissagree with me. I will tell you that I dont let my dogs run loose even in a fenced yard unsupervised.

I feel sad for these folks but once again...had they gone one step further.

I'm not going to get in to who I think is at fault or not. It sucks that it happened, RIP Gage.

But I had to comment on this:

I don't...Ever.

I don't care if it was 1000 acres, they will not be out there alone running free. Plus in this case, besides the fact the dog could jump the fence or whatever else, there were three other dogs outside, and still no supervision??

I would not go as far to say this is a hate crime, that may be humanizing dogs too much (and I AM an animal lover....hell that's what pays the bills)...plus if the neighbors problem was with the barking, it coulda been a beagle and he still woulda done it.

Again, no opinion to who's at fault, and I am not defending the neighbor either. But usually when you get a laywer for defense, they tell you not to say anything...anything you say can be twisted. Just a guess.

my sister's jrt (my dog's bellymate) was recently shot and killed. they live on 10 acres, and she decided to let the dog run free for the afternoon. the neighboring farmer called and said, "ma'am, you'll need to come get your dogs body. he got into my chicken coop and was eating a bird, so i shot him." she was a little upset there was 6 .22 rounds in him, but at least the farmer finished him off.

If it is the same story then we are seeing a little bit more than what was said.

So the dog was not an angel after all and he was eating the neighbors animals. The neighbor was also protecting his animals as you would protect yours.

That bird probably even had a name. So why is it ok for your dog to kill his pet bird?

There is always two sides to every story!

Contain your dogs properly and you could of avoided this whole mess.

You got the nerve to say I am dumb as a box of rocks.OH that's why I was involved in the Michael Vick case??? Worked with many of his victims (YES THE DOGS)...yep thats me OLE dumb as a box of rocks...OH is that why I work for rescues assisting in home inspections, transportation legs helping to get abused or dogs on death row to their forever home...etc... The list can go on and on!!!

I have been around hundreds of pitbulls...and other breeds but it is usually the pitbulls who are the ones who fall victim to peoples ignorance. I spend my time picking up the pieces of what some HUMAN has done to an animal....

My life means something for I am doing God's work...And Gage was one of God's creations...I really don't know what else there is to say because it's like that old saying...Im talking to deaf ears....

I'm proud to say I labsolutely ove my Lab Hailey (who was a rescue MIND YOU)...I'd walk in front of a car to save her life....And before you say EXTREME AGAIN, I am one of THOSE PEOPLE who LOVES their animals...NOT one who just "likes there dog"....When you have walked my shoes....seen the abuse that happens every single day to these animals THEN you can judge me.....

To those who have this wild opinion that a dog should be chained in their fenced in yard....HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF "DOGS DESERVE BETTER ORGANIZATION"...I am a representative for them as well..(check them out ...you might learn something about CHAINING your dog- because that is what this organization is all about) OH wait..THAT must be why i am as dumb as a box of rocks...

Might I ask...what do you do to make a difference in this awful world????????

Justice - You are engaging in major anthropomorphism (i.e. attributing human form on an animal).

Gage was a dog. And not a well kept dog at that. There is no reason whatsoever he should have been loose in that yard alone, let alone loose in a yard with other dogs. Both shows extreme ignorance of our breed as well as extreme irresponsibility on the part of his owners.

Was the neighbor an a-hole? Sure. I won't dispute that. But he would not have had the chance to engage in that awful crime that he did if Gage's owner's would have - for his safety - kept him contained & quiet.

His crime was barking? Yes, actually that IS a crime. It violated noise ordinances. So Gage's owners were "criminals" as well, although their crime wasn't as heinous. As soon as the neighbor complained about Gage's barking, they should have done something to keep him quiet to ensure Gage's safety. Barking dogs of ALL breeds are often done away with when the neighbors have had too much.

Going on, I will not say that people here do not love their dogs. I love my dogs & I adore my cats. But I would not jump out in front of a car for them or put the life of a human in front of theirs. You can love a creature, but there is still an order of value in this world & a human's life is more valuable than an animal's.

As for your participation in your various endeavors, that is great. Wonderful for you. But if you would, go ask your buddies at Dogs Deserve Better what would have happened if Gage had he had a nice chain or runner set up? Wait, I'll save you the hassle & answer for you - HE'D BE ALIVE TODAY.

Dogs Deserve Better - you know you're right, I have to agree. A dog deserves to have a caring owner to contain it properly. And if that means a nice chain or runner set up, fine. Or would you rather see the dog a grease spot on the road or shot & left to die like Gage? Me, I myself, I would rather keep my dogs safe & sound. They deserve it.

As for "doing God's work" why don't you then go care for some of His children? At this very second, as you are reading this, there is a human being - a child of the Most High God - being physically, sexually or mentally abused. These human being go through every single abuse you have ever seen an animal be subject to & more. Yet you do not seem to care about them & would rather divert your resources & funds to care for pets.

Now do I believe we should rescue & care for abused animals? Sure. I 100% agree. But I also believe that abused humans need our help before abused animals. Rescuing & caring for animals is great, but how in good conscience can you do it when you know a little girl in your neighborhood is being molested (did you know 1 in 3 women is a molestation victim?), a women is being beaten in a bloody pulp by her spouse, someone is being murdered or a person is starving on the street? Then you abandon them by choosing to divert your precious resources to a dog & have the gall to tell us you're doing "God's work?" You seriously do not want us to believe that do you?

I wholeheartedly believe as an abuse survivor myself that ANY abuse to a human OR an animal is terrible & should not be tolerated. But I would hesitate to say you are doing "God's work" when you choose to put God's own children - your brothers & sisters in Christ - by the way side to care for animals.

Justice, I do not wish to be rude, but the tone of your posts here tell me that you are nothing more than troll spreading humaniac propaganda. I'm sorry about Gage, but the sad, bad fact of the matter is the owners are as much at fault as their crazy neighbor. If they'd have kept their "brother" up in a proper manner, quieted his noise making to reduce the aggravation of the neighbor & basically watched out for him like proper, caring "parents," he'd be alive today.

This is a GAME DOG forum though there are many PET bull owners here as well. You spouting off about how Gage was ok to be left unsupervised running free in a "fenced" yard just goes to show your ignorance about this breed of dog as a whole. ANY of the high drive breeds need to be properly contained and IMO, the American Pit Bull Terrier is at the top of the list. It sucks that this whole thing went down the way it did, I'll give you that...BUT YOU ARE TAKING THIS TO THE EXTREME. Thats no opinion Ma'am, thats a fact. A dog is a dog, a human is a human. I definetely agree...This forum is not for me or any of the other thousands of supporters that we have...You people are whacked! I DO love my animals. I provide the utmost care for them; shelter, food, health care, exercise, containment...etc etc
I chain them too, but at least they're still here.

I DO have compassion for animals, hence why I am a tech, going to vet school soon, and rescue.

I DO my part to change peoples minds, and it's in the real world. Not posting stories about other people's business all over the internet. I fight BSL every chance I get; whether it be going to town meetings or writing letters. I take (some) of my dogs out for the public to meet and learn about the breed. I HAVE changed minds. There are others here who do the same.

Do NOT tell me I cause the problem. Or any one else here for that matter. We take the responsibility to keep our dogs OUT of the news (for anything negative that is).

 

You know what....All you people who preach about chaining your dogs EVEN WITH A FENCED IN YARD.....do you think your dogs enjoy being chained....If so...why don't you chain your stupid asses for a couple hours and see how you like it!!!! The fact is, no one here blew sunshine & rainbows up your hiney like you wanted them to & it made you mad. I'm sorry to disappoint, but the folks here are responsible, down to earth, dog owners; not some care bear crew who thinks dogs are people in fur suits.

BTW, in closing I do LOVE my dogs thank you very much. How do you come onto this site & tell me I don't love my dogs? You don't even KNOW me. I just recently spent $1700 - $1700 that could pay for MY doctor visits & MY medications that I need - to send one of my ill dogs to the top university hospitals in our area.

I could have just let him die b/c I need to go to my doctor appointments every 3 - 6 mos & I need my meds (about $400 worth per month!) for my seizure disorder, but I forsook that to get him well. Now I'm struggling to pay my doctor bills & can't afford one of my seizure meds. So don't you DARE get on here & tell me I don't love my dogs!

Lord please forgive me for saying this, but Justice if you & I were face, I would have slapped the taste out of your mouth for having the gall to say I don't love my dogs, esp. since you don't know me, don't know my dogs & don't know my situation! :mad:
