    day 2 off being "unemployed"

    and the fun begins!
i noticed on day 1 that one of my Guineas, that i had suspected was dispatched by a hawk or roaming dog several weeks ago was mysteriously with the flock!?!? sure enough, it was back. i hadnt seen it in over 3.5 weeks so i chalked it up as gone. well, i think that i just caught it coming off the nest to feed, so i figure it has gone broody.
plan for day 2... go pick up some building materials for the new coops, mow the lawn., find the clutch of eggs. well, using my big Yankee brain i started my search-armed only w/ my electric hedge trimmers, i began to cut back some cover. low and behold....

    19 eggs.
it was not without incident though. as i was searching for the clutch i startled the whole lot of them and they scattered. one not so lucky soul flew right into Bishops kennel run...it escaped his clutches-or should i say "gums" ( he DID manage to get a mouthfull of downy feathers though, went right for the backend)
so it flew up and right into Siobhan's kennel run, she did some damage by the time i could get over there...
so i thought it was dead, i went over to grab ahold of it and it popped right up and flew...right into Kearney's kennel run ( i cant make this up) Kearney made short work of it and is now enjoying a raw diet...

    Siobhan wants another chance...

its not the first time one of them has flown into the kennel runs, im sure it wont be the last either- but i cant get mad at the dogs, the bird invaded their space. Bishop is usually w/ me when its time to round them up- and he is VERY gentle w/ them-but in HIS run its different story.

anyway- i will watch the nest for the next couple of days and decide what course of action to take

Them dogs got lucky! Sorry to hear your unemployed your not alone. On the bright side your dogs might get more attention im sure your yard can keep you plenty busy.

Me and my bro in law had a p.p.o we just lost a county contract now were fighting hundreds sometimes a thousand applicants just to work for 10.00ph. Gotta keep your head up RR. Shits bad here in CA too unemployments at 11.6 today and its expected to keep rising. I think the whole countries heading for bankruptcy. This shits crazy.

thanks, but im not too worried about my "unemployment"...i have just gone back to being self employed-i still have my GE stuff and 2 cars to build w/ another on the way. nevertheless- i put a few resumes in today, we shall see.
it was a nice paying gig, wished it could have lasted a few more months so i could build the nest egg back up-but oh well, life goes on. at least i dont have to get up at 4am anymore

Thanks for sharing that little story. That is one unlucky bird, lol.
Keep your head up about being unemployed. The beauty about it is that it gives you a chance to re-evaluate your life and where you want to take things in the future, especially work wise. If it wouldn't have been for me being layed off about 7 years ago I would have never gotten to where I am right now in my job.
I bet your animals will enjoy that bit of extra attention so that's something to look forward to.

Sorry about the bird, but keep your head up, the unemployment is the highest it has ever been since WWII according to 11alive news this evening and they also said I think it was 15 other states that had the highest unemployment rates to date, seen your kids, nice ones;)
