I hope you don't mind me poking my nose in but I have a tip conserning the alignment you mentioned...

    Use an Angle,
Measure and mark up where you want the webbing, get the slat nice and straight on the web using the angle. Fasten the first slat with two screws to the webbing so it stays put at 90deg. then fasten your next slat aligning it up with the first ect check with the angle along the way. Should do the job.

would be nice to see a picture of your build so far.

    best of luck
    Cheers

Good tip Norseman I spent alot of time cutting boards and fastening them to the belt and putting it on the mill only to have it go crooked.I was thinking of building a square frame out of 2x4's and putting the slats on the inside to keep them straight and having the belt under it.Do you think that would work too?

Like Norseman said I use a piece of angle iron and a framing square. Measure slats along the top and bottom to make sure its the same length and staying square/straight/true.

GI Joe.... I get your thinking and in theory it could work but it does put you in a position where your slats MUST be 100% identical in length and you could still get the belt on crooked to the now straight slats...
Do as bgblok68 says.... he worded it better than I did....LOL

I don't know about that Norseman. I think it would be easier to draw a pic than put it in words sometimes. lol

Just wondering........... what type of wood did you use for the slats?

I read somewhere soft wood untreated was the best to use... just cann't remember where I read that.
I am sure there are as many preferances as there are mils out there.

I understand what ya talking about and i have done that but once the belt and slats are released it tends to slant one way or the other.... Do ya lay the belts on the floor and drill holes while they are together or do ya attach 1 slat and then start drilling and connecting from there??? Any pics on how ya start getting the belt tgether would be helpful and also pics of the belt being put on the mill itself could also help... Thanks in advance...
