breeding ?

i have heard in line breeding it is better to put a father to daughter or mother to son then brother to sister. is this true. does brother to sister cause problems i.e. physical(defects) or in a dogs desposition (mentally) thanks in advanced

 

I never have liked full brother to full sister but father to daughte or mother to son has worked out for me in the past.

 

Brother to sister won't cause any defects as long as it's not continuous (brother to sister, then breed the brothers and sisters off of that...)

 

wont hurt anything.....but like shon said i wouldnt do it several times in a row....usually before you get 6 legs or 2 heads or anything.....your dogs will get smaller and shy/skittish.....i got a male thats 2 years old.....35 pounds on the chain and pretty shy.....off a 1/2 bro/sis breeding....but the parents were REAL HEAVY linebred....

 

bro/sister breedings in my experience produces more brood stock than box dogs

 

You're right there usually does produce more brood stock, but nothing wrong with it as long as it is not done as Shon said several times in a row and as long as the parents of the dogs were not bred strictly for brood stock(i.e. heavy line or inbred).. As long as there is an out in each dog there should not be a problem with a bro/sis breeding..

 

The problem with inbreeding, is when people inbreed and inbreed and inbreed and inbreed...you lose traits. In inbreeding the good traits are magnified, and so are the BAD TRAITS...people think that just because a dog has been inbred so much and thats its a 12xs Tab bred dog (just using it as an example) that its a great dog...when in reality, all it is, is a pretty ped. Inbred to lock in the desired traits, outcross as needed to make sure you don't lose anything. I am a big fan of family bred stock...

When you get to inbredding you better know your line of dogs inside out.

 

how would u decide that a certain litter is the one to inbreed on? (brother/sister)
