2 fighting dogs at Dulles shot to death

<!-- -->CHANTILLY, Va. (AP) - The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority says a police officer shot two pit bulls to death at Dulles International Airport after one dog got out of its kennel and attacked the other.
The airports authority says police responded to the AirFrance cargo area of the airport Thursday for a report of a dog fight.
Airports authority spokeswoman Courtney Mickalonis says the dogs' owner dropped them off to be shipped overseas aboard Korean Air flight 94. She says the dogs arrived in separate kennels, one chewed out of its container and into the other's.
Mickalonis says the officers tried to break up the vicious fight with pepper spray but ended up having to shoot the dogs.

Yea, cops are real stupid alright. Stupid enough to strap on a gun & risk their lives for you for chump change. Let some creep bust in your house & have you at gun point, some sicko rape your wife or some whack-job snatch one of your kids. After that don't forget to call these "stupid" cops to help you out. :rolleyes:

Sadly, a lot of jack-legs here like to punk on cops but the sad, bad fact of the matter is they're people like you & me & they have a job to do. The only difference is they're serving people who for the most part are a bunch of ungrateful ingrates & the job they happen to hold is LAW ENFORCEMENT. They ENFORCE LAWS. If you choose to stay within the parameters of the law, the overwhelming majority of the time you have nothing to fear from a police officer. But if you choose to BREAK the law, you have given them no choice but to enforce the law at your expense. It is YOU who are the master of your own destiny & for the most part YOU are in control of how police officers treat you.

But to get back OT, remember police officers have authorization to use deadly force so long as these 3 criteria are met:

- Intent
- Opportunity
- Capability

IMO the officers were merciful - they DID try to break up the fight using non-lethal means (pepper spray). I mean it's not like these guys carry break sticks with them. :rolleyes:

But when push comes to shove, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do & sadly in this case it was eliminating the threat by killing the dogs.

 

yes i will call them. they probably take a couple of hours to show up though...

in my experience all they want is get it over with and get back to doing nothing.

the job they do they dont do it for free. they get payed by all of us dont forget. and if they think that the money they get is not fare noone stopping them from quitting and getting another job.

but job security plays major role here i think.

so here they just killed the dogs to stop them from killing themselves right? and lets say they kill the first. why they had to kill the other one too?

 

Someone needs a reality check. The police do what they want. They can make your life hell even when you are doing right. To quote a movie "just cause it's your job don't make it right." disobeying unjust laws is just as much our duty as obeying just ones. MLK Jr.

 

I say if they take a couple of hours to show up to your place, so be it. It sounds like you don't appreciate those "stupid" cops anyway. :rolleyes:

As for doing nothing, there is never a time that we're (yes, I did say "we." I was a Federal law enforcement officer for 3 yrs, my husband was one for 12, although I have been out of LE for 11 years now) doing nothing. Often reports have to be written, calls responded to, building checks to be accomplished & patrolling to be done. Do some cops take some time every now & then to screw off & shoot the bull? Sure. But name me a career when people don't.

As for why they do it, it's because they WANT TO. It's certainly not for the pay & I can personally tell you there is no "job security" in LE. There is a high incidence of cops who lose their jobs due things like inter-office drama, those who fail to meet the high criteria for personal accountability & of course we can't forget those who get maimed or killed on the job.

If you want job security get a job that has little chance of self injury that is something we can't live without; like a doctor, a nurse, a nursing home assistant, a teacher, a mortician, a funeral director, a tombstone engraver or something like that. But job security as a cop? Sorry friend, not quite.

But as for addressing the situation concerning the dogs, I can see eliminating one. As to why they chose to eliminate both we cannot speculate on b/c the article does not give us all the details. There may be extenuating circumstances that we don't know about.

Or maybe the officers were just scared. I know I responded to a loose pit bull call with 2 other officers. They had drawn down on the dog & one of them was scared to death of pit bulls. If that dog had charged us he'd have had put enough holes in that dog to make it look like swiss cheese.

You DO have to understand that some officers do not have any experiences with "pit bulls" than what they've had on the street & those street experiences are likely not god ones. That may have played a role as well. But since the article didn't elaborate, we don't know for sure.

 

BTW magnoilaotis, I wanted to add someone does need a reality check. You. I can tell you from personal experience that officers don't just "do what they want." Far from it.You do what you're told to do & if you can't do what you're told, you're cut loose. Now are there a small percentage of loose cannons in LE? Sure. But I'd venture to say there are no more there then there are in other jobs. The problem is bad cops - like bad pit bulls - are a tiny minority, but they make big headlines.

As for disobeying unjust laws, firstly I must ask - who determines when a law is just or unjust? Secondly, I go back to my first post - you are free to disobey any law you wish as you see fit, but don't complain when you reap what you sow. Everyone has a job to do. You, me ... and the police. I remember when I was working LE. There were a lot of laws I didn't like or agree with, but I still enforced them b/c that was my job.

(P.S. Where did MLK Jr.'s philosophy get him? Murdered, that's where. Plus, I am not one to take the advice of a philanderer & hypocrite. But thanks anyway.)

 

First of all I don't need anyone who is armed and scared of dogs protecting me. I can will handle any danger myself. More than likely anyone messing with me will be the ones running to the lawdogs. Cops are only human and many times let personel feelings or just having a bad day interfere with doing what is right. Many are tyrannic thugs just waiting to assert their power. We have given them more power and yet the situation gets no better. These guys at the airport sound like a bunch of scared gun happy thugs just dying to shoot something or someone.

 

lets not bullshit about cops.....when or if you ever need one.....and they turn up in the nick of time........they can look like superman only sucking on a fucking donut lol.....but.....they DO tend to be cunts more often than not.....im sure most have found that most times they have had to be around a cop for any reason has not been a good reason!!.....true we need cops....or there would be anarchy.....fecking sierra leon stylee lol.....but at same time.....ill not be sending fucking christmas cards to any of the bastards.......excuse my french....merci!!......

 

To abk I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees bowing to the powers that be. What happens when current laws interfere with one of the USA's original standards life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, I guess you persecute, sorry I mean prosecute anyway. Goodbye America. With attitudes like this we would still be eating tea and crumpets. Take a look at the law you love so much in this same categorie "man gets 102yrs for intent to train." Damn the cops . Thay shoot bulldogs for fun round here. You must live in a nice neighborhood. The cops dont do mutch of shit to enforse the laws round here and if some dummy comes messing with my home or family the cops will be looking for me soon thereafter. Damn em to hell.

 

I have lived in the D.C. area for 17 years the cops here for the most part are dicks...you get some that are cool but for the most part a bunch of trigger happy fairfax cops in VA. It's fairfax and it isn't fair and thats the fax.....

 

we have LEO because todays people do not have the balls or will to defend themselves instead they would rather be victimized an sue the attacker after the encounter.

honestly i feel bad for the person(s) who decide to come into my house because im the owner of some very nasty weaponery most of my toys are NFA/class 3 items.


anyways onto the matters at hand, the cops could have tased both dog which would have worked for sure. pepper spray doesnt even work on humans 70% of the time, especially when you have had pepper spray training. i also would rather people carry a stun gun than a break stick, i know if my dog attacks another dog or if my dog gets attacked im going to stun both animals.

 

If my dog ever attacked another dog. Much as I love her, I would put her down.
If another dog ever attacked my dog, that dog is dead.
My guess is, those dogs were trained to fight, they are in a better place now, then in the pit.
