How to trace?

    I've been reading about certain dogs and wanted to know how can I "forward trace" a certain dog not to back trace? I mean to back trace the procedure is quite clear for me now..but what about if i want to do it the other way around..i.e to follow a dog back from the 40s or 50 or 60s and see who are his grand grand sons these days???
