its only for looks any how.if you look back at one of our polls most people preferred natural

  3. personally i love my dogs with their ears clipped.... its all a matter of preference... it was originally intended for pit dogs so that their ears wouldn't be torn in fights but now its purely cosmetic... some say it makes the dogs head appear bigger but others think cropped ears make a dog look more "menacing"... there are minor precautions to take since it is a minor surgical procedure but once again it's all up to the owner

I'll politely disagree with you and base my opinion on fact. A clipped ear is more prone to being damaged especially since the inner ear (the important part) is now exposed. They also have a tendancy to get dirtier since the entire inner ear is exposed. Trust me, you would rather have a hog grab your dogs ear then somewhere more important. I'll just leave it at that but if you talk to most anyone that knows their stuff they would tell you to avoid clipping a dogs ears. The stress alone is hard on the dog.

    Regards,

makes them look a bit more rough, and i like the bad dog look, even more so when you know they are the biggest baby in the world. i laugh when peeps are scared of my male, then i show them he loves human attention and licks the sick right off.

  9. yeah i heard that too but i also heard that ears bleed alot so thats why they were clipped... but then again its all a matter of how you look at the situation and who you ask... i also heard the part about dirty inner ears but i also heard that drop ear dogs dont get air flowing thru there enough so moisture builds along with bacteria and other wondeful things but when it comes to hygeine it is better to keep them natural... but as for me i keep ear wipes on hand and my dogs ears get cleaned meticulously

I dont like the clipped ears at all, especially the ones that look like Doberman ears (barf).
Like was stated, better to grab an ear, then the head, or anyother vital part.
Plus, why do you feel the need to "look bad"? that just makes our dogs look worse and worse. Your dogs look "scary" enough being an 80 pound hippo....

also, like was stated earlier, you tend to get alot more ear infections, which are just a pain in the ass

    >>>I dont like the clipped ears at all, especially the ones that look like Doberman ears (barf).<<<

I resemble that remark! I have 4 Dobermans. LOL All 4 have cropped ears. My Pit Bull has natural ears and I like them better. If he was cropped, he wouldnt have that sweet expression.
My blue female (Doberman) has a military crop kind of what youd see on a Pit Bull. Her ears were did later then normal (after 14 weeks for sure) so had to be cut that short so theyd stand.
The "history" as I understand it behind the Dobermans' cropped ears has to do with them being used as protectors. Cropping shorten the ears so the person the dog attacked wouldnt have a handle to grab, same with the docking of the tail, nothing to grab. Again they were cropped a lot shorten then you see today as many show breeders want antlers on their dogs it seems.

i think clipped is the only way to go matter of fact i just brought my newwest dog back from getting hers done and they look great i know alot of you guys are using your dogs for hogs i dont know much about all that but i do know clippped ears make a dog with a not so desirable head look alot better

Cropped ears also draw unnecessary attention to you and your dog. I mean Animal Control Officers are told that dogs with cropped ears are used for fighting, they are miss informed, but that is what they believe. Plus it is that much more money dropped into a dog that might just turn out to be another bay dog.

hhmmmm...For pit dogs so thier ears wouldn't be torn....That is just not true..Oldtime dogger's did not clip thier match dogs ear's (OK Most didn't) The reason why they didn't do it was because they would rather have a dog ride the ear and not the side of a dogs head, where a dog would have less damage done. That is why you see show people with dogs with thier ears cut nowadays, because they think that's what a fighting dog looked like. If you see a dog with it's ears clipped most likely it's just a pet or a show dog. Past and present.

Cropping and docking were not done to remove the handles...
