Red patch/spot-possible ringworm?

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by Mathematic, Jul 24, 2010.

  1. I noticed this spot on my pup about a week ago...on his left hind leg.. I didnt take him to the vet until yesterday because i initially thought it was a bruise or something from him and my other pup playing too rough..they're both 1yr..after about a week the spot got bigger...took him to the vet and they ran a "Black light Ringworm Exam" and it came back negative...then they suggested a "Fungal Culture" because they dont know what it is. They subscribed GlenHaven Y/S shampoo and some Resortin skin Ointment to put on it twice a day ...the vet said it should take about a 2 weeks to get results back for the Fungal Culture...but in the meantime i thought id ask you guys..Does anyone have any ideas of what this might be? it looks like a ringworm to me but idk...

I know this is old but my guess would be from a tick.

if it has scabes and blisters this may be it...And it will spread...Good luck

  6. Nah, they didnt say anything about staph....the test came back negative for ringworm. they said it was some sort of bacterial infection...

what are you feeding him??? if it's a bacterial infection I would maybe consider a better diet like maybe a raw diet. My ex gf's pup had a similar situation and we researched and found that a raw diet may help with bacterial infections and such, sure enough it cleared up in about a week or two simply from that but good luck!

my dog has that same bacterial infection... whatever it was it hit her in a flash, we went to the vet and they did the ringworm test and it was negative and they also scraped her skin for mites and that also came back negative. the vet said it couldve been from an ant bite or something she was allergic to. but hers was much worse than that, her whole hiney was bald and red. its getting better though. the vet gave me antibiotics and a Benzoyl Peroxide shampoo. she is getting better but still looks bad:eek:
