JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Jerry Adams got a nice surprise Thursday, three days after his pit bull was allegedly shot by a neighbor while the 9-year-old was walking him.

A stranger, who saw the news coverage about the shooting, gave Jerry a new pit bull puppy.

Jerry’s mom, Joy, said they are going to name him Oke; the other dog’s name, Ecko, spelled backwards.

The stranger, Scott Owens, who is a pitbull breeder, said the puppy was up-to-date on shots and plans on paying for the puppy’s shots as he grows up.

An investigator stopped by the home again Thursday afternoon. Jerry told the investigator he dropped the leash right before the neighbor shot the dog.

This is enough to cause this dude enough problems ^.

Sucks for this kid. But the bottom line is this is on the parents. The legal owners of that dog. They made a poor judge ment call and will likely make many more. The fact that they allowed their 9yr old kid to walk an APBT in a residential area alone, they should be thankful that is all that happened.

As a parent I would never allow my children at that age to walk any of my animals in a residential area. And as a responsible owner of APBT, they know better than to even ask....

Crazy horse- your peta side is showing!

Whats wrong with letting a kid walk his dog ?As long as he knows how to handle it,& its on a leash shouldn't matter what kind of dog it is!Or is this not responsible ?wtf? The guy should get charged.Think about how that kid felt seeing his dog get shot?

Yeh watching your dog get shot would be pretty brutal. And I'm sure he had no right to do so. But I think what simms is getting at is that any 9 yr old walking a bulldog in a built up residential area is just an accident waiting to happen. If that dog saw another dog or child and decided it was GO time, I'd put money on it that the 9 yr old would be towed right into the thick of it by his dog! Maybe let him walk it out bush and under supervison, But no way in hell am I going to let a 9 year old walk my dog down a suburban street. It's asking for it!

I think you are caught up in the story. An have not given this type of situation much thought.

It also states in the reports that the boy let go of the leash seconds before the old man shot his dog.

So what? Majority of people would dip out if they seen a firearm being drawn, not just a 9 year old. He said the guy told him he was gonna kill his dog, pulled out the heater and let one rip... i'd say the kid made the right call lol

Basically, the guy is a straight up dick that shot the kids pup because he felt like it. Idk, i guess i dunno the guy. maybe he couldve been scared... but i doubt it. I don't think you should have to retreat from an animal either though. Dogs act like they wanna get me all the time. I don't stop and wait to see if they will lol

The kid should not have been in that situation to begin with. An you don't know if that dog made a funny move. What I know is that it is irresponsible to allow a 9yr old boy to walk a APBT in a residential area. I never said this was the kids fault. The fault is of the parents. An it is just that simple!

I have 4 children and at anytime would glady. Let my kids walk my 6yr apbt. They all know how to handle the dog. It shouldn't matter what the dog did. NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO KILL A CHILD'S PET!!!!!

Regardless, what kind of crazy discharges a firearm in front of a child? That alone say enough.

I guess that is where our parenting styles differ. An if you want to make the argument that no one has the right to kill a childs pet. Than no one has the right to kill anyones pet. An if it does not matter what the childs dog did. Than it does not matter what anyones dogs does.

I don't subscribe to that train of thought.

There is not a 9-yr-old on this planet that could hold a "pit bull", or almost any dog, if it should decide to bolt.

I don't know all the facts behind this story so I won't pass judgment, but I will say that discharging a firearm in such close proximity to a human is irresponsible and stupid. But some people panic when they see a loose/unrestrained dog coming at them.

And I'm not a nice person anymore with loose dogs. I don't care if it bolts through your front door or yanks the leash out of your or your kid's hands. You will be lucky if you have a breathing dog after that. And I don't care who sees the incident.

I agree. The parents are at fault 100%. No one else is to blame.

And continue to reward irresponsibility with stupidity?

I agree as well, stupidity breeds stupidity, why the hell is a 9 year old walking alone down the street is the bigger question. Why is this man not being charged for the shooting the dog, shooting a gun in city limits legal now days if nothing else?
