deep blue sea is what had really scared me! there was also a swimmer of the US national swim team who was competing in a race and did not finish and was found 2 hours later dead on sea today if I am not mistaken. Not a good feeling towards water today that is for sure, especially since I haven't gone swimming for years now.

No body (that I know of) has ever been bit by a shark while on dry land, so on land I will stay! Even when I was Young and Dumb I joined the army not the navy because I can walk alot further than I can swim and if you fall off an APC you dont get ate by jaws

Yall know that you've got a higher chance of being struck by lightning than a shark mistaking you for food, right?

I have 0 chance of ever being bit by a shark and plan on keeping it that way
that lightning strike may not be avoidable but the shark is

Everyone who has ever been attacked by a shark knew the risks involved before it happened. I surfed in arguably the most white pointer infested water on earth and i done it regularly, every week pretty much for ten years. I lost one friends to a white attack, knew of one other through others and saw two sharks while i was in the water, neither of them whites. Heard all the horror stories heard all the local stories about locals getting harrassed by big sharks ect. Saw a seal get torn to shreds once right in the spot we were sitting not fifteen minutes earlier , thing that made us all laugh was we felt safe out there as we had a guy bobbing around with a water camera in the channel lol.
Sharks dont "eat" people, its a myth a white pointer shark is generally "testing" the vadility of what their quarry is and generally let go once they realise we are not their prey, seals.

The area i lives waters are renowned as the biggest whites in the world yet the sheer cliff faces, the reefs , the country drivers and the brown snakes will kill you long before any shark does. Doesnt mean we were not scared of them we just figured if we wrapped ourself in a blanket crying in the car about the big bad shark we would never have any fun or get any waves.

Google Rodney Fox, and see what it comes up with, arguably the hardest mofo to live a white pointer attack and profit from it.

landed on a juvenille great white while surfing at blacks beach ( it was the last ride of the day, nearing dusk)...was right out there again the next day.
have seen many sharks chasing mackerel on clear days back east...still surfed.

    sharks? not afraid of them.
now bluefish? thats another story(the pirhana of the sea)

Ironic, Jevan[the guy i knew who was killed by the white] was taken from us at a spot in my home state called "blacks". We have a memorial table near the carpark over looking the spot now.
You dont see white pointers before they attack its not their M.O.
When i lived in surfers paradise i saw more sharks in four days surfing when i got there than i had in over ten years of surfing at home, but you dont get whites on the gold coast, they tend to do a little more damage than a six ft bronze whaler.

    That's a misleading stat.
Would you rather be walking through a thunder storm or swimming in shark infested waters lol

Agreed White sharks hang out in certain areas looking for seals and fish and they tend to concentrate in those areas when hunting...Surfing with white sharks in the area is like going on safari then deciding to take a stroll in the tall grass in lion country...Ya may not see him but he is there.

I go body boarding in Pismo Beach, CA (1hr 1/2 from Santa Barbara) every year. I know there are sharks out there....I just try not to think about it and enjoy my time in the water.

I am more likely to die in the five hour drive home than I am to be tagged by a shark

must be the scariest feeling to feel a shark give a quick tug on your leg to see if you taste good....even worse if the fecker goes all "AIR JAWS" and hits you like a truck.
