what the hell is n old american Pit bulldog? There is only one, American Pit Bull Terrier and they were/ are not bred for size.
Not sure if im correct but the american bull dog breeders did use apbt's to create the american bulldog, but its not an american pit bulldog.

You talking about American bulldogs?....They used to be called American Pit Bull Dogs back in the day when Johnson and Scott used to get along - 1970ish is when the NKC first picked up the breed then later the ABDR came along.......Talking about breeding for size and say mastiff type dogs with gaurding and wieght pull ability you are looking for 100% Johnson Dogs. If so check out this forum www.realjdjboard.com

Thanks for all your responses, yes they will be classed as American bulldogs. I was told the aims of the new strain was to produce bigger "working" dogs, im not sure if the johnsons was that type of dog. i was informed that the painter bulldogs was 1 of the strains which became popular and was an out come of producing bigger working dogs, but there was other dogs bred by a few other guys who were looking to breed similar bigger performance type dogs. The american pit bulldogs were named just that as they were bred for pit type work but bigger and bullier in appearance, also excelled as catch and guard dogs.

i was told there was a load of journals and information on these type of dogs on the internet and what dogs were produced and by who but so far have had no luck in finding any, and then was recommended to ask on here.

thanks once again for your responses.

Ok I gotcha now you are looking for bigger lines of Scott type or Standard type American bulldogs. I believe Hines also produced some larger of this type. There are a few guys on here with them. I have a Johnson type which is a mix of the two but a higher percentage on the Johnson blood. I will PM u a great kennel for Scott here in the states, must see.;)

yep i dug it out, it was "the world of fighting dogs" by Carl Semencic
years ago we got an Am Bulldog "Thor" and it was the only one ive ever had. Mindy decided she wanted one and i had my dogs, so i couldnt really object. i cant recall if he was a Scott or a Painter bred dog, he looked like a LARGE white APBT and he was a spooky sob. he was great with kids, women, but hated all strange men, which was something i didnt like....i didnt want to deal with our dog biting someone. then he decided he didnt like me and that was the end of him. i might have some pics of him, i ll have to look.

*add...nope, they got trashed evidently, but i think i posted one up on here in the past. some other thread about American Bulldogs

I guess I will ask since there are a few on here with Scott type and many more hog hunters too. Anybody know much or seen dogs from Konfederate Kennels? I see they are doing well in the NKC events. Also what do you all think about their "black hybrids"?

fantastic, thanks for that! im over in the u.k and i remember pre ban days we had a dog similar to these big working bulldogs there wasnt many bulldogs in them days where we were and the these were just called big p.b's. because this is what they were like in appearance, and no doubt their was some out there which were worked and excelled in what ever task was put to them. but over the years as ive got older i've been keen to find out the history of them type of dogs.

the site you passed on to me mcs is spot on, thank you for that.

hi deebo780 yes i have seen pics of them, they also have black dogs but to me resemble very much the look of johsons american bulldogs rather than the scotts, am i right in thinking that the scott bulldogs were longer in the muzzle, where as the johnsons were shorter muzzled.
