Who keeps an GB dog as a housepet

after our kids were born, even the two jrts moved outside permanently to their own 18x20 6 ft high kennel we built off the back of the garage; our apbt was already on a 10 ft chain, and we put a built a 6 ft high kennel around her chain that's at least one foot from the edge of her spot so no little arms can reach in with the kids mobile this year and cousins coming over.

that's not to say she wasn't a spoiled couch warmer at night for my wife before she got pregnant, but the dog will go over anything or try to go through anyone to get what she wants. there are recent dogs in her ancestry and some cousins that are legit, but even through she's a "pet bull" and as shiny as a new nickel, i know the havoc she can wreak so the closest she'll ever get to mine or anyone's kids is when ours are at the fence saying "doggy" while she runs laps on her chain at 100 mph.

anyone who lets any dog around kids unattended is a moron and their kids and dogs deserve better. nothing makes my stomach turn more than the stupid pics people take when they put their young child (let alone an infant) in between their dog's legs while it's curled up on the ground with the poor dog looking up at the camera like "what do i do?"

do gb dogs make great pets? in my LIMITED experience i think yes they do, but 99% of the people that have them as such should not.

i think it's all in what you accustom/condition the dog to. raise it indoors, it gets used to being indoors. same with being outside. imo, a GB dog can and does make a good indoor (pet) so long as you know what you're getting into: ex. its exercise requirements, its triggers, etc. do your homework, see what you're getting yourself into and adjust accordinally. i also agree that most that own a GB bull dog should probably not, nor would i recommend for first time owners or novices.

i wouldn't have any other breed in my home, let alone own. but as others have said if you have a house dog it is what it is, if its a yard dog it's a yard dog. either way i have 1 in the house and trust no other breed around my kids. also my house dog knows she is the dog and she knows her place. and i couldn't ask for a better baby sitter than my bulldog. but if you have little or no experience with the breed then it might not be the dog for you. only trouble i have ever had was a male i had that was about 3 years old and then had my 1st daughter and he became jealous, i believe, and started to mark he territory which in turn got him a chain spot. but anytime i had brought a pup in and raised it in the house i have never had an issue. so which ever way you go good luck.

Mine are both mostly chain, but will alow them inside at night till I go to bed. Well this is until I finish brewing this baby in a few weeks. Then they will be outside. Expecially Grace shes just a rude biarch and would trod all over baby.

So IMO yes it's very possible to have game bred or performance bred bulldogs raised indoors with kids I have done it.

They have bitten my ass before playing with toys that sh it hurts like a MF. But not the kids. They are well behaved dogs but I spent a lot of time with them. If your any kind of parent you should have common sense enough not to leave dogs or any animal alone with kids. And you teach the kids how to act around their dogs. I loath parents who will leave small kids unattended with dogs these dogs are no exception. Some parents do not need kids let alone bulldogs. To me this is all common sense but not everyone has common sense.

Thanks Buddy I take pride in having well behaved kids and dogs. If they are bred properly they shouldn't be trying to take your kids head off. I don't keep skittish or HA dogs around. And if you are any kind of parent you should have enough common sense to realize animals are animals on a good or bad day they can bite which is why you should always supervise your kids around the hounds. Not positive but weren't Tornado and Virgil both house dogs? At least part of the time? I remember seeing a picture of Tornado on the couch. And seeing footage of Virgil sleeping on the couch LOL.

Sadie your pictures are great! A good example of how they can be excellent house dogs if people just exercise a little common sense, instead of living in a fantasy world where everything is out to get their kids.

its a bad ideal to think a dog will not hurt or kill a kid at any time ... its allways the same song and dance on the news after a kid is hurt or killed by a dog . "he was like a member of the family " he never acted like that before " " they have been playing like their whole life " dogs are shit eating animals that do not reason well . and yes even the apbt . i have a friend that had a bulldog that he raised around his kids that acted great his whole life and all it took was one second and now the kid has a scar forever on his face and not a little one . if you think your dog is safe think again because dogs will be dogs . you may go without ever having a problem but would you really gamble with your kids that way if so then your not very bright any way . as far as keeping a dog in the house be smart about it find the right dog and watch it grow training will not stop him from flipping out .
