I live in the city(in the getto) , in a appartment in the back there is a small lot this is ware my dog uses the bathroom etc. Its like a back yard. but it is not fenced. I have a spring pole hanging from a tree back thare for my pit. He absolutly loves it and I would hate to take it away from him but the yard is toataly 100% visable to any and evryone. Including any police or anybody elts that drives by. The laws restricting the ownership of the breed are tuff here In Muskegon MI. Sometimes when people walk/drive by and see my dog working the springpole thay have this shocked look on ther face. I have even had a#% holes stop ther cars all excited and be like wow are you training him to fight? So what do you think Guy's, is it irrespnsible for me as a pitbull owner to let the general public see my dog work?? Has any one had any trouble with the police aspca etc... because some idiot thought you were training youre dog to fight just because you are exersizing them. The last thing I want to do is portray our breed in a negitive light or have problems with the authoritys. would you take the pole down?

if you got nothing to hide then leave it up after all it is only exercise for the dog.if people pull up and say that shit send them on there way...

No, I personally wouldn't, but my mother, who keeps some of my dogs on her yard sometimes, caught so much shit from neighbors and the humane society (not worthy of capitalization) over a springpole, that she eventually packed up and moved to a different city. I have a couple of friends who were arrested for "breeding fighting dogs" and a springpole was actually used as evidence against them. Myself, I have a springpole on my yard and it is easily seen. I took it upon myself to explain to hs that I use it for the purpose of exercising my dogs, and if it should become illegal to use one then I ask that they let me know and I'll take it down. I try to maintain a good relationship with these people, as they are responsible for the anual renewal of my kennel license and such:/

I would not let people see your dog working the spring pole. Because people that dont know alot about the breed i can see where they would get the idea of you training your dog to fight. Only thing they see is a pit bull bitting the crap out of something. So i just keep my spring pole in the back yard where nobody cant see it.

Well,I live in the country so I dont have this problem. If you feel uncomfortable with your springpole out in the open I would think strongly on constructing a privacy fence.I myself have two set ups both are out in the open but again I live in the country so I dont have to worry about the whole privacy thing.Whatever you decide to do best of luck!

I say unless you have a personal reason for not wanting attention, leave it up. More people need to come to understand that springpoles, breaking sticks, treadmills, etc. are not fighting equipment but instead exercise and safety equipment. And IMO the only way for that to happen is for such items to be routinely seen in normal everyday use by the general public.

Like everyone else said leave it up if you don't mind the attention and are responsible enough to explain and educate the general onlooker of its use... If you hide it their only gonna wonder more.

  9. I agree with most, if your dogs do not have any that may seem like war marks, leave the springpole where it is (as long as you do not think it is going to be stolen). The next time some dude comes and ask you "are you training him to fight?" give him/her an odd look as if saying "what are you talking about?" and explain your dog(s) is only playing.

Take those opportunities to educate people. It is the least we can do to combat bad publicity and ignorant bully owners.

I wouldnt take it down I would just let him play with it at a time where there is less traffic of people and cops. That way your dog can play and you dont have to deal with so many people bothering you about it or harassing you. Early mornings or even late in the evening.

I would leave the pole up! It is just a form of exercise.

Thank's evrybody for youre replys. I have absolutly nothing to hide and my dog has not one scar on him. Living in the city dosen't stop me from exersising him reguarly, althow living ware I live limits me to only being able to own 1 dog. For this reason I plan on buying a house on the outskirts of town soon. I will take evrybody's advice and leave it up.I did not want to take it away from him in the first place and reading evryones replys put my mind at ease.

  15. I would keep it up if someone says something explain it's exercise or maybe put up a small fence. I

screw what they think. just try to explain to them (even if though most are to stupid to get it) thats its exercise and fun for your boy.

whoops missed your decision lol thats what i'd do leave it up and screw what they think.

  17. I'm glad you decided to keep doing it don't feel guilty you aren't doing anything wrong and your dog will be much happier :D

I would keep it up, but I would maybe also encourage some other neighbors with their dogs to try it out. You neve know, their dogs might enjoy it too & it would give people the opportunity to see that just about every dog loves a good game of tug-of-war & can have fun with a spring pole. You might just cause an accident if some people driving by see a chocolate lab or a jack russell going to town on it. ;)
