As you can see from the photos of Amber she was a liquorice coloured dog, Nicky was a little red dog.

Funny that none of the dogs I mentioned above lacked stamina. Butherboy's Sampson (aka Swamper) had that weak back end problem, but he got 2 wins nonetheless and both his losses were very game.
Mexican Blackbird was a cold dog but hell did she produce game dogs, even when mated to a cur named Marshall Zhukov.
I have never liked the Yellow dogs but I am sure they would add endurance, however I think if they got bred tighter to the imported Bolio stock that it would have had a similar desired result.

I just saw Nicky once and that was when she just landed in Cape Town. Next thing was HH phoned me to say Nicky died on his yard and had a yard accident with Jackie Brown... I think...
I also recall that he couldn't find any real damage on Nicky...
Anyway, that was a hell of a pity as I think she could have played a major role in producing some good dogs for Cape Town. Mexican Blackbird was as excellent a producer as Nicky with just a few breedings, as they didn't win as often but they were almost all certainly game.

Anything with Eli/Bolio will start to struggle if the pull started going over two or between two/two and a half hours, its just the way those dogs work out and the way they work. You do get an exception here and there but those lines are generally two hour dogs.

We've got a couple other strains here in Africa which are even more potent to a very high degree over the Durban Poisons. The most potent one being Malawi Gold which has a THC content very close to 30% and is grown in Malawi. and the other one is refered to as Swazi Reds or Rooi Baard (Red Beard) which is BAAAAD s#$@t. The Malawi's have a very long turn around time of about 120 days compared to other strains but if you're a smoker its worth the wait. The Swazi Reds/Rooi Baard grows these huge red heads that are as long and thick as your arm and also have a very high THC content when compared to the stuff you've got up there in the Northern Hemisphere. Climate here is highly conducive to growing the stuff.

Give me that top half all day. History shows that stuff crossed well with frisco chinaman dogs and the teacher blood.

True that but there's curs in all pedigrees. I'm sure you'll find some in yours as well. LOL

Of course however we make a concious decision to breed to or not breed to curs most dogmen anyway do not have the means, time or patience to keep and breed a cur dog with an average pedigree from an average producing line. If you or whoever is going to use the dog is willing to take it, breed it, keep the whole litter then select, test and cull without flooding the market with 2nd rate pups off a cur dog then so be it.

We do what we do when we have to do make what we have better. It*s no one*s business if anyone wants to breed to a cur dog but don*t then peddle the shit. Simple

But the new craze doing the rounds is breeding for mouth and ability instead of gameness, trying to finishing it by 30 and it goes longer then the dog ends up quitting because of the way everyone breeds.

Well said, but firstly I don't have dogs and therefore can't breed any. Secondly we tried to keep what we could, as many as we could afford to keep. Thirdly my dogs won't quit for any of the above reasons so pick one...plus they won't get tested so they won't quit. Bwaaaaaahahahahaha
Fouthly, I never did breedings unless planned way ahead. I always planned thoroughly, in fact so thoroughly that the dogs were RIP by the time I thought of breeding them. LOL
So ok, the Bullyson hounds always needed something to give them help with the diistance and therefore the Bolio/Eli crosses.
The Jocko dogs had the same issue and hence the Redboy/Jocko crosses.
Some hounds needed that rough edge and mouth therefore the above crosses.
So I am of the opinion that to produce winning dogs you've got to find the balance or right combinations. Therefore crosses like above and Redboy/Jeep/Jocko/Tombstone/Bolio offers some of the finest athletes to date.

Firstly the answer was general not directed at you but if the shoe fits. 2ndly you referring to nearly 20yrs ago man, no offense but that whole line and family is nearly dead. There is a lil 3xw that is 25% that blood and that is great the rest are nearly gone which is sad but not surprising. I understand you have no dogs however you asked a question and got a response that for some reason you took very personal yet you have no dogs, dogs that you claim to be recently linked have since either quit or lost then disappeared because as I mentioned in the previous post the lineage is a low % and the way breeders have and are breeding them * breeding combat dogs not game dogs, dogs that they hope to finish the job early and not have to go the long run.

You generalize in your argument which is way off the way mark as the lines you mentioned are older than 20yrs and have since evolved as different breeders and dogmen have bred to what they want thus creating their own strains and families. There are modern day Eli / Bullyson dogs that compete worldwide and go the distance regularly, I also am fully aware of Redboy/Jeep/Jocko/Tombstone/Bolio families that are complete shit and others that are simply world beaters. Yes you have to find the right combos and balance this involves testing and culling, working a family selecting certain individuals based on traits that you the breeder wants, identifying short comings and strengths then trying to either improve on it and work away the undesired traits.

It*s easy to say you are of the opinion on how to breed winning dogs, however getting it done is a different thing all together as it*s easy to buy dogs from someone and make them win but the real test is when you have your own dogs, your own family and combos to make them win.

Ps none of this is personal attack but just based on the way the thread is going, have a nice day
