How are YOU (intending) leaving your mark on our dogs?

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by Rocky H. Balboa, Dec 2, 2005.

  1. I do not think this question needs much explanation.

    Are you an activist for the rights of our dogs?
    Are you improving the breed by creating a "better" strain"?
    Are you preserving what has been refined by your predecesors for your family's future?
    Do you educate the public about the true nature of our dogs?

    What are you doing?

  2. I am attempting to leave my mark by:

    Educating the public of the true nature of our dogs;
    Not allowing "Pit Bull" stereotypes to govern my actions;
    Allowing my dog to be an Ambassador to its breed;
    Placing my wants (breeding,etc) second to those of my dog's breed (conscious of overpopulation of unwanted);

    Furthermore, I hope to leave my mark by accomplishing my long-term (lifetime) endeavors:

    Starting my own family of dogs;
    Establishing my strain of dogs with more "social" attributes without diminishing "Gameness" (like many of the dogs of old);
    Never needing to "sell" pups to support myself;
    Having enough yard space to allow family cold/curs to live their lives;

    And specially, being recognized as a person that loved dogs (all dogs).

    I intend on leaving my mark by handing this breed to my children in the exact same form as it was handed to me.

    i like doing rescues. educating people about the animals and helping to overcome some of the prejiduces people have about the animals even though most dont know what they really are. rescueing animals to keep them from ending up in the wrong hands and to reduce the over population of the breed by not breeding my animals. they get fixed before they come in the door lol.

    My dog is determined to leave his mark on everything too especially the f en rug.

    Hey, this was a topic from a while ago. I got thoroughly thrashed on my ideas. Almost made me sorry I replied. But I would like to say that all of my dogs aren't that dog aggressive. Off leash they may be (don't know ain't tried it) but due to consistent training, they will ignore another dog if they don't feel challenged by them. I have the general public approach us with their animal and my dog will look the other way and mind her own business. Properly exercised my boys are couch potatoes and love to snuggle. Thank you whoever defended my views. I figured the ukc comment would raise some hackles. Sorry about that. All of us love our animals no matter what their bloodlines or backgrounds are. I didn't realize it was seperated into so many different groups, game or ukc etc. I like all dogs and respect other peoples opinions. I try to keep a open mind about things.

    its ok to have petbulls and some can be very docile you just remeber like everyone should never trust a pit not to fight.

    B/c they are God's creatures too. Not to mention if we created them we have a responsibility to care for them, whether they're curs or not.

    I was thinking the same thing. It cost just as much to feed a bad one as it does a good one!

    Rocky's Human. I think this is very commendable. A dog doesn't have to be game to be considered an otherwise good dog - he simply has to be game if he is to be used for breeding purposes.

    Finding enough space or homes to put dogs into that didn't quite cut it, is the reason I probably will never start any breeding programs myself.

  20. Because once they are born, they become my responsibility no matter how they turnout. In my eyes, a "Dogman" loves the dogs he breeds regardless of what they (the dogs) accomplish. IMO, a person who's priority is not the dogs is not a true Dogman. If I bring dogs into this world, I have to be adult enough to take on that responsibility.
