You also mentioned that the dog was a softie but how did it get to the point it is now? It sounds like something you should have corrected along the way before it got to the point it is now. When you don't take charge they will.

The dog is not the right dog for you but if you insist on keeping it get professional help and hopefully you learn something.

...it has nothing to do with you saveing her that make's her want to protect you+family,,or was she trained this way by past owners,,,she is just what she is,,and what she want's to be,,to be best kept in a very secure pen...do not let the very young kid's walk her on their own...as ya said walk her where ya on your own..i have a bitch very simaler,,she will not let any-body else touch her,,only me+brother,,the only reason i don't put her to sleep is cause she is the last of a breeding i want/need,,apart from that she would have been pts a long-time-ago...(in saying that she has really grown on me)...some dog's spec;these type of breed's just don't want other dog's around...if you think you can have a happy home full of loose bull-terriers,,all getting along (with-out house fight's)..for-get about it....belive it or not ...ceasar milan would not even do that, even if they have their balls cut off....it just don't work..??if she get's to much pts or give her to somebody (adult)that can handle her.....good-luck...

I agree blue ! If you insist on keeping her it will cost you a little money to keep her safe and others safe ! so question is how much is she really worth to ya ?

Sorry,I don't have any success stories to tell you.I'm generally impatient and if a dog wants to bite people I shoot it. But you can "most likely" get along keeping her if you do a couple things, put her on a good chainspot, car axle, good chain, good hardware, good collar, the whole bit. Do a search on here about chain set ups or maybe someone will post a pic of one for you. And then let no one strange go into the area you have her chained up at. And I wouldn't take her to a park, where she will have interactions with potential strangers, but then again I would never take any dog to a place like that. It's just a disease ridden place, filled with idiots anyway. This world is filled with morons and the more people in a place the bigger chance you have of running into one. I understand you want to give the dog a good life and that's fine, just take the precautions necessary.Good luck with the dog.

Well I'm going to persevere. Worst comes to worst she is kept secure away from other people. She gets on great with my other male, and non confrontational dogs.

I know there is no way of training her out of protecting the property, we notice that when we got her. I think I can get her to calm down outside cause that aggression wasn't there when we got her.

Surprisingly she loves to meet other dogs and their owners. She wwill except a cuddle from anyone accompanied by a dog. A good example was last night. She started growling at a guy in the field, he had a whippet with him. As soon as the whippet joined him she stopped, I let her walk right over and they enjoyed a walk together. It's like the opposite behavior you'd expect. When it's just me walking her she calms down much easier anyway.

The main problem is when I am with the rest of the family walking her. Even if she stops this behavior I'm keeping the muzzle on as a precaution. I also took her to see a girl in the the local shops that she met when we first got her. She remembered her straight away and I picked her up for a cuddle.

My dad, who's in his late sixties and has always owned dogs, just walked right in the house, says shut up and she loves him to bits now.

Some things are sad, even though true. Some things are true, even though sad. Ben's post is your reality.

Unstable dog that you want to bring around other dogs to play? What "sign" exactly are you looking for to know this is terrible practice. Only a 50% bad gut feeling isn't enough? Wake up

There is a reason the dog wasn't as agressive when u first got it. The reason is in the title of the thread. The dog was starving. A hungry dog is week. U can face reality or hide behind false hope. Either way u are responsible. I will say one last thing. There is no way on gods green earth I would allow an unstable dog near my family. I don't care how good it acts right now.

...a child can wonder into a dog's chain-spot,,,so a secure pen...one more thing there's no such as a non-confrotanional dog's,,,every dog will get into a fight some-time in it's life,be it over food,or just simpley do's not like other dog's......the more i listen to you i see your bitch is very like one i have+if i'm honest this dog is not for you...i think your dad would be able to handle her easy,as she seem's to listen to him(one-man-dog)..but one sure thing,,she ain't no house-pet.....only going by what i read....alarm-alarm-alarm..alarm

That's my worst fear is that she was only placid cause she was weak. I have zero concerns with her around my family. If anything it's us she feels the need to protect. She even shares a bed with our two cats, which have been here since we got her so they are her pack, although she doesn't like other cats. Our friends bring their dogs over and she plays with them. Only dog she had problems with was a Staffordshire bull male we adopted after her, they got on most of the time but if he wound her up it'd get nasty so it wasn't right to keep him in that situation.

That's why you should have secure pen's out-side,,so you could rotate them if you wanted to bring one in/etc/etc....the only thing i would say is think about given the dog to a one man dog person...or if your gonna keep her,,never leave her un-supervised,,,un-less she gaurding the house,,,but do not leave kid's alone with any big dog.... the reason they were fighting was jealously for attension from you, more like....anyways that's me for now.........g-luck

My dad already has 3 dogs, ones a patterdale. He says his dogs would shred her apart! He's defiantly good at training and taming though, a proper old timer who doesn't give a crap. He doesn't see a problem with her being around us or the kids, just don't even try to introduce her to others and keep her on a chai with only myself walking her.

....well if he has the experience ,listen to him ,,still say a lock up pen is best for this type of dog,it's not your kid's which she knows,,if one of their friends make's the wrong move............well................
