Do you think any Tom , Dick, or Harry that picks up a Stratton book and becomes a fan of game dogs deserves to be able to buy a good hound from a real dogman , to keep as a pet?

There is nothing wrong with anyone getting the a dog regardless they read anything or not. I'm more concerned with the people that breed for all the wrong reasons and that goes to dogmen or pet owner alike.

nothin wrong with wanting a real bulldog as a pet i just dont think the average joe needs or has a reason too want a super hott dog!!! he needs something more laid back!!

Some pitbull lovers just want a piece of history. But can the average joe handle the hotness when it comes? Lol

I hate to be a bearer of bad news but majority of these dogs are in the hands of pet owners. Nothing wrong with that but when you start breeding sub par dogs or breeding to collect or to your own set of ideals what a perfect dog should be where the problem is.

Bulldogs are not "pets" they're working dogs that need to work and be able to express their normal behaviour.

but if your not gonna hunt dont just look for extreme hunting lines. nothing wrong with a dog from weight pull or conformation lines as a pet.

I leave that to the owner/breeder/real dogman to make that decision. I figure that anyone should be able to buy a "real" bulldog if they can afford it,or can persuade the breeder to sell it to them. When we start throwing around terms like "deserve to own" it's like they've done with firearms and it's a slippery slope to get on. Just because someone doesn't need a bulldog doesn't mean they shouldn't have the right to have one. I don't consider any one person has the right to decide on the future of an entire breed. I think some people are better off without one,but I support their right to have one if they choose to.

I've seen a lot of guys read a book and become a 50 year veteran overnight. I would say that a book is a good thing to get, before you get a dog. And not to forget that each dog is different so there is no set in stone way of properly doing most things dog related, time and experience are the best teachers

One could say that no one "NEEDS" to own a bulldog. In all honesty the closest to an actual need would be for catch dogs. People WANT to own bulldogs for all kinds of reasons. If you can do it without screwing up (which comes in about a million different flavors, all with different amounts of sh** mixed in) you "deserve" to own one just as much as the next guy.

I don't think these dogs are for everyone because a lot of " joe blows" get these dogs not understanding that those cute puppies will be grown dogs one day with prey drive through the roof
