Curious about my Pit Bull mix, questions?

First time posting here, will attach photos...

I've been trying to put the pieces together for a long time on what my dog is mixed with. I've been told he is a Pit Bull Lab mix. I think that could be right but I see more, just don't know what exactly. I do know he is a mix though, I see what I think is called "ticking" in his fur. I may be wrong but I don't believe Pit Bulls or Labs have "ticking" genes... so what else could he be to get ticking from?

His behavior- Animal aggressive unfortunately. His aggression seems to be more like him hunting. The best way I can describe it is he has a lot of prey drive, at least that's what I think it is. He loves to chase, he also has a shadow/light/reflection obsession where he will chase lights/shadows for hours if I would let him... drooling, barking, whining, fixated, can't keeps his eyes or attention off the shadow/light. Same thing when he sees an animal except if he is off a leash (which never happens anymore after this started) but when I wasn't aware that it was any animal he wanted he would dart toward it with no warning, no growling, no raised hackles, no barking. He would bite and shake and refused to let go had to be forced off the dog. This may have something to do with the breeds in him???? Other than that he is very attentive, loves all people. Seems like the sweetest docile most obedient dog until an animal comes into the picture. Basic training was a breeze, took about 15-30 mins for him to get each thing down perfectly!!... Sit, shake, lay, stay, back up, drop it (for toys won't work for animals)... potty training did however take a while. Once he was neutered it was much better. Very food driven type of dog. Training with treats has always worked best, and once he has it down he will instantly do what you say without having treats. Treat training doesn't work with trying to get him to tolerate other animals though. He used to get along with other animals perfectly until he was 9 months old he's 4 years old now.

Ideas on behavior traits/modification/ etc? Breeds he's mixed with? Opinions?

Honestly, unless you or somebody on here was present during the breeding, nobody will know. Good luck and take care of the dog.

Ditto. Just enjoy and love your dog. Keep him safe and away from other dogs very securely. Don't worry about anything else.

Without knowing the dogs linage there is no way to tell what breed the dog is the behavior you described is very typical of the apbt and pitbull type mixes so it's imperative you keep the dog away from other dogs, stay away from dog parks, and always leash your dog in public. If you don't have a break stick I highly recommend you get one in case of an accidental dog fight it's a very useful tool to help part two dogs quickly. What you are describing is perfectly normal behavior dog aggression is genetic in the American pitbull terrier and even in pitbull mixes it's commonly seen no cause for alarm you simply need to take extra steps to keep your dog out of situations that would put him in grave danger of succumbing to his genetics.

Also be aware if there are any other animals in the home present or you plan on adding any additional dogs, cats, ect just be aware that at some point your dog might try to kill the other animals in the home even if he's socialized or raised with them so if the dog is kept in doors and you add anymore dogs later down the line you will want to make sure you have a crate and rotate situation set up or something similar outdoors chains, kennels, ect if you plan on keeping more than one dog it's simply for the safety of the animals. Never leave him unattended with any other dogs, or small children. Best of luck to you both.
