Dog Aggression

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by The_Diesel, Jun 11, 2014.

  1. A lot of people on here always say that pit bulls dog aggression is so inbred that they could never be trusted around other dogs but than why do they make good catch dogs for hogging? I was reading another forum and a lot of the guys seem to actually prefer pit bulls vs dogos/ABs etc. Would think you would hear more about the dogs one day deciding to not go after the hog and go after a bay dog? Even the youtube videos seem to show pits in the back of a truck with the rest of the dogs.

People say the DA cant be socialized out so I would think working in pack would be out of the question.

...yes some can be worked in a hog hunt,,,but as a rule...never trust a bulldog not to fight.....i'm sure most of the guys that pig hunt on here will tell ya that there catch dog's,,were working with their bayers since puppyhood/etc/etc...and they don't as a rule release them till the hog is cornered, the bulldogs become so accustomed to the dog's they work with..plus their concentration is on the pig.,.they know there on there way to catch,,most of the guys that hunt won't have a da dog,,...some of the best pit-dog's..were/are dog friendly out off []....but not all-way's the norm...

This is the most cogent post I've ever seen you make.

Which only pisses me off more because it shows you're capable of not talking like an autistic chimpanzee.

Thats Blue said. You cant socialize or train it out, but with some dogs you can work around it. Another note he mentioned is only releasing the dog once the target is where you want it and doing so when the dog is 100% focused on the hog.

Let's not forget also that catch dogs aren't your true to type APBTs either.

Also,a lot of the times hog hunters are pretty selective on the dogs they use,if a dog is dog aggressive then they will often keep trying dogs until they come to one that isn't or to a more controllable degree. You never see the ones that wanted to hit everything on those videos, just the one's that worked out for them.

blue I think raindog was agreeing , just giving you some shit bout the way you talk. You brought up some good points blue. They will catch a bay dog from time to time if one crosses in front of him before he hits the target.

I saw a guy using male and female catch dogs as a team.Male caught the female on accident and the bitch drug him to the hog and caught.

Like TDK, that is normally the case. But I have come to find out some hoggers only use "true to type" APBTs as catch dogs. They have accidents from time to time but they redirect the dog towards the hog. Wacc is one that I know uses them. But many others do as well.

Their is actually video footage on this site somewhere of wacc using his dogs hog hunting with bay dogs .

Wacc knows his own dogs .Could he use every one of them for this job ? I doubt it.He is probably using a young dog or a dog that's capable of doing the job.I got dogs and I know which ones to use and which not to.Sometimes u have a young dog that you use and as he or she matures you just can't use them anymore. It happens, their is no big secrets in this.

I agree bama but wacc surely isn't the only one. There's a lot of em on the hoggers site that only use real bulldogs. Most use backyard bred bullshit but not all of em, as I'm sure you know.

No he isn't the only one treez. What I mean is we start with a young dog and as they mature we may have to quit using them for catch work. Some will continue on with no problems but you won't get 100 percent that will.
