It may have been worth it, I simply do not know.

I have seen a number of times where I chose not to pay and the dogs ended up out of this world. And every now and then I have seen people pay thru the nose and it end up being a 2-3 year waste of time.

My buddy tells me all the time I have scared money. S

I'd tell him what he calls scared you call safe lol. It's hard to lose/waste it if you don't spend it.

A reason for having plenty APBT bloodlines that can compliment each other might be due to the out crosses mentioned in post #24; although it's the first time I read about them since I am relatively new. Let's not forget the mentioned out crosses happened long ago and I don't think breeders back then had as many options as breeders have now, so if they didn't go with out crossing they might have been turning in a closed circle of genes.

I don't see anything wrong with outcrossing back then, and maybe in the far future again. If a certain breeder was running a line with relatively small jaw muscle and outcrossed to a breed (somehow) close to the APBT with a larger jaw muscle, i won't expect an immediate litter/s of success, however he has added the larger jaw muscle to his lines genes, and with several generations of selective breeding of the pros of the outcross (jaw muscle) combined with the pros of his original line, he would have successfully added the desired trait (physical or metal) to his line.

So it's not a move to make if you are expecting immediate results from the outcrosed litters ( might get lucky but that would be the exception). In a way I look at it as bloodline outcrossing.

Some of the famous bloodlines if you trace it back to the beginning of the lines, people will be surprised that for several generations the peds dont include any tilted dogs no ch gr ch, POR, Rom etc...and then the success of the line starts pouring out. Why? It's creating the gene pool IMO. Breeders will be selectively breeding and testing without racing their dogs cause for them it's obvious they are not there yet.

again this is a newbie opinion and might be 100% BS, just thought to share.

    Regards

Lol don't forget that because you don't see the title there doesn't mean that many of those dogs were thoroughly evaluated and proven pit dogs before being bred. Same as today actually

There was an enormous difference between a lot of Am.Staffs pre-70's than what there is today, and people need to understand that they were duel registered or registered as Am.Staff's like TROTLINE is saying, when they were in fact game dogs.

Crossing game bred dogs into anything other than game bred dogs will cost a breeder more than he is willing to pay if he is truly looking for game dogs.

I've learned from experience and asking high percentage breeders you have A great producer, and don't line breed just keep out crossing you loose it! Best to best in A line bred family, then out cross! then back into that family! Most times tight line bred dogs are very slow starters, people loose patients! Or start second guessing there breeding every generation isn't going to throw A great dog. For me any way most seam to throw back to there third generation. It's A grind unless you want to buy somebody else's stuff and hope it's what you payed for!
