Thanks for being responsible and welcome to the board! Anytime I hear that you have altered dogs in your first few posts you are definately on the right start. I gave you some "reputation points" for making that smart decision.

DO NOT give your dog Valium! I work for a vet and spays get torb, the pain killers used depend on the Dr. we always give two injections, one before surgery, keep them over night and give another before they go home. You can give dogs bufferred asprin, but you need to know how much ask the vet. Pits definately have a high pain threshold and the stitches depend on the Dr. also, if the dog seems like she will be bouncing around than they usually do external and individual sutures, calm bitches get the internal sutures that is sewn with one thread (usually) the reason for this is because a rambunctous bitch can tear the single suture and everything could come out, that is why high strung dogs get individual stitches. I wouldn't be too worried about pain.

Yes, we ask owners to keep the animal calm for two weeks at least. Good luck!

Also, once a female has been spayed, they will gain weight easier. You generally (all dogs are diff. so watch her weight) cut back there food by 1/3. Since she will/is prob big, you dont want extra weight to help contribute to hip problems.

I just haven't had that experience Pity. From everyone I have ever talked to that has been a wives tale. Beside my own experienced I have also spoken with several highly experienced vets and they all agreed that was a myth. Give her some time off and then get right back to giving her the same exercise and care that you previously did. My parents have a spayed Bandog and she didn't change a single bit after she was spayed. Still has the same high energy drive, mentality and playfullness as before and her weight is exactly where it should be. The key is to keep giving your dog the same care and exercise that they always receive. Many people believe that spaying/neutering slows a dog down so they allow the dog to live a couch potato life. That is why people might tend to see more weight. They aren't allowing the dog to exercise as much.

hmm maybe it just depends on situations then. My Bf's mothers petbulls were both spayed, and they both gained weight afterwards- she says she never changed diet, and they live the same life, i have seen some other females do this as well. BUT, i have never had the problem myself, maybe what they told me was BS, i dont know because they arent my dogs.
I had a petbull spayed years ago, and she stayed the same. Thats why i also said just pay attention to her weight. My main concern was her getting fat and causing stress on her hips/joints esp on a big dog (assuming shes large).

Hello all, Man THANKS for all the replies, I feel at home here. I dopped Krystal off at 8:35am and went to work and called the vet every 2hrs. Picked her up at 4:10 KY time. They went and gave her a pain shot when I arrived to pick her up and she was so pitaifal looking and very lathargic. No i didnt give her any valium but yes I hd a couple (My perscribed meds) but I did ask about that and the vet said valium is in the inital meds they would give her. We both naped a hr or so and she is coming around back to her old self. ("90% pit") well actually it is 75%, here dad was a full blood milk eye pit and her mom was 50% pit and 50% dane. I was very nervous and excited this morning when I posted. Krystal has all the pit chararistics and is marked mostly white with black spots (Dalmation like) except most of the black spots are on her skin (except her face). She has 1 blue eye surrounded by white and 1 brown eye surrounded with black. I hope to be able to post a picture of her soon ( if you all will have her in the (Pit Bull Community) Thanks again all. Joel
