is a garage door spring a must when making a spring pole or can you use spring with a high tension?
also is this a good set-up for a puppy pen: 8 ft 4x4 with 2ft buried. then wrap the post with chicken wire. 4 or more post? diameter 6 ft long, 6 ft high, and 5ft wide. i'm new to the crafting thing.

first garage door springs are huge you can use a smaller high tension spring. chicken wire can be chewed through. you may want to go with a heavier gauge or hurricane fence/chainlink (samething jst depends on where you live). i would use six posts three on each side chain link and all stretches. use a wire along the bottom and top for added strength. you may want to burry part of it and put a top on it as they do dig can climb and or jump higher than 5 foot.

you can use any kind of spring... i suggest going to a harware store an buying a nice 50 LB spring. you want it strong but not so strong tha tyour dog cant pull it. No it doesnt have to be a garage door spring.

like Seal said, i would use chain link fence, and burry the bottom atleast 6 inches, to keep he/she from diggin her way outta there, i don't suggest puttin them on any type of shock collar, just don't think that's right at all, i rather have you chained up than have a shock collar on them, which i don't have neaither of my chained up expect when i'm lettin them work out i'll put them on a big loggin chain to build up there muscles

it sure will i was just stating a pup( would be safer in a schock collar than on a cage with chicken wire.

  9. YES!!! I game dog couldn't give two shits about an obstacle. Here's a recent story: So, i gota few game dogs, few show dogs and what not. I find this website that sells what they call "electric breaking sticks." They are basically human-grade stun guns, the type that police carry, but in a smaller form..about 5 inches long...100,000 volts. My wife is home alot with the dogs while I'm at work, so I thought, if there is a house/yard accident and she's alone, this might be a good idea, so I order two of these stun guns. Some stuff goes down, I'm there, so I decide to use the stun gun. 100,000 volts to these bitches......ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. They didn't care one little bit that they were being hit with that much power...they just kept going. In the neck, chest, shoulders...it didn't matter. So we use the traditional breaking sticks, get them cleaned up, inspect them, and see the damage to the skin that these "elec. breaking sticks" did. Huge red areas where the Elec path was shockin em'. But then, you barely touch the thing for a split second to a 70 lb. 'staff, and he yelps like you just kicked him in the balls! Game dogs ignore all obstacles when they want or need something....period, dot.

I am reposting this in this area since a lot of people here have asked about it recently. The best setup I know without spending a ton of money. If you have a tree and limb stong enough that is better but not all of us do. I do have to say if you are concerned about it staying up make it with a in ground sheeth and slide the top part in and out. NJOY
I have springs, spring pole attachements and flirt pole attachemnts at my site but this is an email I sent to person not to long ago.
I sell the spring and the attachments, either
attachment is would be useful for you. I don't like anything that has
strings on it due to their teeth hence I do not use any type of rope.
The pole, is very simple. You go to any fence supplier or home depot and
ask for a 20ft steel/aluminum pole and then ask them to cut it 4 times for you. They
will make all the cuts at an angle.
    Supplies:
20ft pole aluminum or anything heavier
1 bag of ready mix or just add water cement
1 3/4 inch eye hole bolt with nut (make sure you can get your rope thru
    the eye piece
1 Drill with 3/4 inch metal drill bit
    1 20ft rope
    1 spring
1 attachment or whatever you would like to attach
    1 hole digger
1 welding torch or someone who can weld for you
    3 2X4s for bracing
Measure your pole out to 12ft and cut on a right angle whichever way
you want it to face. Then cut it again at 5ft weld the angled pieces
together to make an "L". Take the left over 3ft and cut them at the
angle to brace in between the 2 poles and weld them. It will look like
the childs game "Hang Man". Drill a hole in the 5ft piece 3 inches from
the end. Put you eye bolt thru and tighten.Lace your rope thru the eye
hole and tie a knot on one end so it will not get pulled thru.
Now dig your hole 3 feet into the ground. Mix cement in the hole and
place your pole in the ground brace with 2X4s and let dry. After place
the left over ground on top of the hole so it is covered and you now
    have a spring pole.
The springing part comes later though, since you first have to get you
dog used to jumping up and getting things. This is where your rope and
attachment come in. Attach your toy to the rope and tease your dog with
it, then let them bite it while on the ground. After it has bitten and
you have tugged on it a few times begin to lift them up off the ground
and do this several times. Tease them a bunch and then let them start
to jump up after it. You will do this for about a month making them
have to jump more and more and periodocally let them win and run around
with the attachment while still attached to the rope. This way you can
still tug on it. After a month of doing so attach the spring and the
attachment to the rope or just to the eye hole depending on how high
you have gotten them jumping and you are done. I suggest you do
obedience to have them play with this but that is just me. Never let
    them play with this unsupervised.

Hope this helps and BTW I ususally
charge $5 for plans but you caught me on a good day.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email me.
